"We are extremely grateful to Coach Brian O’Connor for his 22 years of outstanding leadership and service not only to our baseball program but to the University and Charlottesville communities. He established Virginia Baseball as the model for everything important to this community, including his incredible development of young men on and off the field and his commitment to integrity, hard work and academics. Coach O’Connor built a national championship program and that legacy is driving very strong interest in the position. We are indebted to him and his family for their dedication to the University of Virginia. Our national search began moments after he informed me of his decision on Sunday evening and we are making significant progress. With the tremendous support from our donors and fans over the last two decades, we look forward to hiring a head coach that will build upon the excellence that currently exists and continue competing for championships.”

I read a super generic AD statement. Explain how it was woke.
She black and she a woman so she has to be woke as 17, it matters little how good or not she is at her job.

If you think for one second she made the decision not to support baseball over football & basketball you guys are nuts. These decisions are made by the $$$ behind the programs, including ours. We got donors wanting to spend on baseball and basketball enough to make us competitive at higher levels.

We even have fans questioning why we are spending money on baseball instead of football here and Ole Miss fans are making fun of us for wasting so much of our $$ on baseball. But she woke! Yeah, right, Bigot much?

Cry much?

im basing my comments on things I read on their message boards and things BOC said and did.

Their boards have stated she’s putting extra resources into women’s sports. That’s certainly fine if she wants to but it’s a woke idea.

It has been widely speculated BOC didn’t like the level of support he was getting there.

Oh wow. How dare she should put resources into women’s sports. Those b!tches should stay in the kitchen. I don’t know if you know this, but women’s basketball crushes baseball in popularity nationwide. And softball is about equal to baseball. It’s just so odd to me that some men get so triggered by women playing sports and getting support to do so.

I have a daughter who is big into gymnastics. I have always hated the fact that state doesn’t have a gymnastics team because of that. If state got a gymnastics team I would be ecstatic. Is it a smart financial move? Probably not. Is it woke? No.

Also, I’m sorry I opened this can of worms.

I’m not triggered by women’s sports.

If women’s sports at UVA is a better revenue generator than baseball, great decision Carla. I doubt it is but it’s possible.

But she lost a 22 year coach who is top 5 in the country easily. I don’t want that as an AD.

Speaking of being a racist bigot (I know that’s what you are implying and another idiot said), I’ve defended the **** out of Selmon. I like him and think he’s going to prove to be a great hire.

It is in fact woke or stupid to make dumb financial decisions. It could be both.

It will be interesting to see who fills that position.
I know of a recently released coach they might want.

I laugh at them for buying the gator bowl for 16 million.

Fiscal year 2023, their baseball and women’s basketball team both lost about $3.5 million apiece. Starting this season, the NCAA will start paying units in the women’s basketball tournament like they do in the men’s. Baseball doesn’t do that. That gives women’s basketball more potential financial upside than baseball. I’m not sure how that’s a “dumb financial decision”.

This ain't woke period and the only reason that guy said so was because she is a black woman or why else say it with her picture posted. Spinning like it was about money being diverted to women's sports does not fly. It's just that baseball is not as important to them as it us.

VA basketball is trying to compete with Duke, NC etc... Their basketball fans would have a come apart if they took any $$$ from basketball to give to baseball and guess what Women's sports are just as popular as baseball and more so than many places. Cooper Flag got 28 million in NIL deals while at Duke.

We talking about 5 million dollar roster in baseball for State. Baseball is far down the list of what their fans care about. They have had one of the best programs in the country for the last two decades and still only AVERAGING 3500 a game with the largest ever crowd being 5,900.

They may struggle in baseball but how many fans really cared. Certainly not any $$$ guys or he would have been supported.

Making dumb financial decisions is an example of wokeness now? Tariffs are woke? Woke is now a meaningless term or just means something I don't like. I don't like IPAs. They're too woke.

Baseball is important at State and to State fans. Why not spend money on something we tend to be good at and has high attendance.
