It seems like every once in awhile a player will do this- get drafted in the first round and go to college.

Mark Prior did it and actually ended up getting drafted even higher- so sometimes it works out. Interestingly enough, Prior turned down the Yankees to play for Vanderbilt before transferring to USC.

Todd, you know very well that for every Mark Prior success story, there's probably 10 unknowns who were worse off after college or later.

In this case, that is a hell of a lot of money for an 18 year old to risk. He could be set for life.

Anyhow, I guess time will tell.

Corbin seems to have some sort of weird power when it comes to recruiting.

Maybe he got some type of insurance on his talent and health. In any event, I'm glad he decided for himself. The history of happiness for those who put money in front of everything else is a mixed bag at best. If I was in Starkville today, I'd damn sure be at Dudy Noble to see for myself what the fuss is about. Hopefully, we'll be cracking some grade A armor today.

with the MLB draft and players have to weigh that out.

I honestly wouldn't say that there are 10 unknowns just because it doesn't happen a whole lot.

I do think that one fallacy is that these guys that get drafted are set for life. You get paid four million- it only lasts if you manage it well. Most people don't and they end up working at a hardware store.
