Vegas Betting Question for Rutgers-MSU

I work with a guy going to Las Vegas in a few days. I'm thinking about putting some cash in for a Rutgers Bet with the line being -17. The problem is, I don't anything about betting on sports.

What would I win if Rutgers covers and I decide to bet at certain levels like $50, $100, $200, etc. ?

With that being said you would have to put up $55 in order to win $50 (or generally that same ratio) and you would be taking Rutgers final score + about 14 or 15 points as the spread is no longer 17.

Good one........I'll be the first to admit...I know ZERO about betting. Never did it and never had any desire to learn. But, upon reflection, I guess odds factor in if I take Rutgers without the points.

Also if you were to take Rutgers with no points that is to win the game out right, that is when you would get odds. I don't know what the odds are but maybe you would have to put up $100 in order to win $700, for example, that would be 7 to 1 odds.
Do yourself a favor though and put your money back in your pocket!!

Usually you bet football either by picking a team and giving or getting points, like RU +17, or you bet the over/under like 51.5. For the most part you would bet baseball via an "odds" or moneyline bet, which means you are betting who will win the game. If you see the Yankees -115, that means you have to bet $115 to win $100 if the Yankees win. You can do any multiple the casino accepts of that ratio though.

Good luck getting that 17.Vegas books are down to 14 or 14.5.One book is down to 13.5.Sagarin ratings are about 12.5 for a home game adjustment.

I agree with the previous poster about betting football.Those people have all week to figure out things. For Baseball-at least in the regular season-,they are under extreme time pressure and make the mistake of thinking that games occur in a vacuum and aren't part of a series.

If you're going to bet, my advice is to do it with the expectation of losing. If you do it for entertainment, like keeping a game interesting, then it's fine. You're assigning a predetermined value to that entertainment. For example, when we played I bet the money line (no points, just pick winner) on Rutgers as it was paying around 3 to 1. I have the worst luck, aka no skill, when sports betting so I viewed it as putting up $100 to ensure a PSU win. We won so I count it as money well spent.

Watch the game and the go to a strip club and get a hand job. Will cost the same and be more satisfying.

Bet locked in at -14. I won't tell you how much I won. Let's just say I, I might opt for early retirement...lol.
