Venezuela produces 3.5 billion barrels of oil per day. China needs that oil.

It’s only about 4% of their total imports. Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Russia can easily make up the difference.
A few things:
1. If Trump really wanted to stop fentanyl he would go after the Mexican cartels. They are the ones moving it into the USA.
2. This is all about the oil. We just took control.
3. The USA helped establish the cartels, we used them to move guns into Central America. The war on drugs Ronald Reagan played a huge part in what we have today.
4. Cartel of the Suns (Venezuela) moves cocaine which is not the drug causing overdoses.
5. If Dems did this move republicans would be the ones losing their sh**.
6. Drug overdoses deaths have been going down for years. Long before 2025.
I have spent a lot of time reading about cartels and the drug war. It is an interesting subject.

Potential with China's $, the oil is there that is why China has a huge influence there.
I never like to play the hypothetical "if the other side did this" game, but I think its clear if Biden had done this then Trump would have already pardoned Maduro
We do care about China setting up shop in South America especially with a country that has the resources Venezuela has.

I think there’s less of a unified grand strategy than that, among other reasons because the oil industry seems to have mixed feelings at best about whether it wants to do what would be necessary to revitalize the Venezuelan infrastructure.
I think Rubio and his friends are naturally hostile to socialist rulers in Latin America, that Stephen Miller and people like him think being “at war” with Venezuela might help speed up deportations of Venezuelans, and that Trump himself is probably a fan of the made-for-TV spectacle. He may also perceive it as a source of money-making opportunities for himself and his family.
It looks like literally all we did was grab the Maduros, so there may also have been an internal coup element.
