I think the answer to the question you asked regarding qb reads is telling. The fact he spun it so far away from the actual question tells you that there is no autonomy.

You're right, Gavin didn't carry it as much as he has, and in retrospect, maybe we should have, right. So we know who we are. I know who we are. And the way we are playing the game right now might not necessarily be the way we play it two years from now when some of these younger players that we think are really promising now are developed, and playing at a different level, then we can play the game differently. So it was really loud at Iowa and guess what, at Beaver Stadium, it gets pretty loud. We are going to have to get over that and figure out how to operate in the noise. Poise in the noise.

Ritchie is trying to get answers to questions that fans are asking. Ritchie isn't trying to go toe-toe questioning XOs. Seems like it hit a nerve.

He kept it vs Ohio State and Indiana, which makes me wonder whether he was banged up during the OSU game, and that is why he didn’t run vs Iowa.
My take is part this and that they know Iowa hits hard and are trying to save him for the next 2 games. Especially if they knew Monangai was dinged.
And perhaps that is appropriate or not, based on Greg and Kirk's judgment on whether GW is ready to make those decisions on the fly in game action. Don't think that there are many coaches who would directly answer that question, perhaps unless it was a clear yes for someone like Penix Jr. QBs, like anyone else develop at different rates and have different learning curves. Depending on their natural ability, high school coaching and level of high school play, as well as the offensive acumen and philosophy of the coaching staff, some younger players may get turned loose earlier. We all know the ball is the program around here, and that will seem to always be an overriding factor why the QB may have to wear 3 belts and 4 pairs of suspenders out there.

Agreed he shouldn’t answer the question but the read to keep or give is not that difficult. I am not advocating to make GW a run first or second QB. But if we are going to go through the drama and theatrics of running a slower developing mesh/read exchange make the call (upstairs) to “read” and run GW more often to keep the d honest and make GW’s feet something they need to worry about. Otherwise just go with a more traditional and quicker hand off to make it easier on the OL and RB.
I believe having him “read” (and the true intention of the offense design)and keep a couple of times will also open the passing game. It will have the lb’s safeties and corners more on their heels and head on swivel to have to account for an additional option.

Now if you mean, Iowa does dirty $h1t trying to injure opponents players. I’m on board with that, they legitimately have that history.

I don't think we can draw any conclusion about whether Wimsatt has autonomy from Schiano's refusal to answer the question -- perhaps Schiano thinks it would give our opponents an advantage to know whether Wimsatt has the freedom to do that.

Iowa is a very physical team. Much more so than Penn St. Road game against a ranked opponent. GS doesn't have a good track record in those games anyway. I bet the team was very banged up after the OSU game and game plan was to try to stay healthy and steal one. Didn't work out and we move on. Excellent presser by Greg. Realistic and candid - shows once again why he is perfect for this program and also exposes how many panicking amateurs reared their ugly heads on this board.
We will have to agree to disagree. There’s no universe where you will convince me a team is ‘Much more physical’ than an opponent who beat them 31-0 head to head and limited them to 76 TOTAL yards.
I do agree that anyone who thinks we’re going into beaver stadium and beating the Nits on Saturday needs their head examined. I disagree though with your assessment that the goal of a season is whether or not we beat psu. It screams little brother
Your favorite team is going down this weekend as Rutgers has a path to success. Michigan threw 24 times and rushed 55 times. We will do similarly.

Nice job by Richie and I believe the other voice I recognized asking some good more challenging questions was Fonseca. Don't let this guy intimidate you. Your questions are spot on. You guys actually got him off his standard responses quite nicely. One thing this confirmed is that the goal was to try to win the game 7-6.
We’re not in the same stratosphere as Michigan, but we have the Big Tens leading rusher and Michigan doesn’t. They ran the ball 55 times Saturday. We can do similarly but the question is can we do so as effectively?
Our coach would be more than happy to run the ball 55 times -- but that requires that we be able to make first downs so that we can keep the ball. Against Iowa, we ran the ball 23 times and tried to pass it 18 times. (The rushes include a sack and the ball getting away on a bad snap.) We had a grand total of 7 first downs -- only 2 by rushing. We were 2-11 on third down. I'd like to think we'll do better against Penn State, but . . .

I don’t know what happened vs Iowa, as it was our worst game of the year.
Against Ohio State, we ran 43 times for 232 yards. This is the kind of rushing effectiveness we need, to be successful.
If we cannot run successfully. It’s going to be a long day, and ugly, ugly loss.
If we don’t generate at least 200 yards of offense, it’s going to be a long day, and an ugly, ugly loss, much worse than 4 touchdowns. We generated 300 yards of offense vs Ohio State. Need to do the same vs Penn State.
