St. X dominated Trinity between the Brohms (Jeff and Brian). TS. Academics also not as close as you'd probably like.

Trinity does not have an entrance exam like X that denies entry to those it does not wish to educate.
Trinity has a PLACEMENT test.

As for domination.... That clearly is Trinity's word to use over its little brother

'70's THS wins 8 - 6
'80's THS wins 9 - 6
'90's X wins 7 - 4
'00's THS wins 10 - 7
20- teens THS wins 10 - 1

Trinity has won every decade back to 1970 with the exception of the 90's. Since 2000 it is 20 - 8. Rick Pitino would even laugh at X for that record against a rival. T20X8.

Actually I have been by the Trinity campus recently. It's not in the same stratosphere as the X campus and never will be. As far as football, I suggest you check the records since you are clueless. In the 15 years from 1994 until 2009, X won 13 games in either the regular season or the playoffs. You know how many Trinity won? 9 games. It is only since 2010, Trinity has dominated. So you have no idea what you are talking about. As far as sports, X won 9 state titles last year. Trinity? ZERO. Academically, X is known as one of the better high schools in the nation. Trinity? Not so much. X is the far superior high school in every sense and it isn't even close.

You are delusional. In the 2000's-today, Trinity is 20-8 against St. X. Trinity also has twice the state titles that X has in football. Most of X's go back to the 60's-80's. Talk about living off the past.

There is little difference academically between the two (see academic rankings below- St. X 6th vs. Trinity 8th for KY private schools). The kids who finish at the top of their class at either school can pretty much go to any college that they wish. I have many friends that went to both schools. Each group has been equally successful in their academic and business careers. I guess that you X boys like to pretend superiority in academics since we own your punk butts in football.

If you value seriously believe that Golf, tennis, soccer, Cross Country and swimming are valued the same in the sports world as Football or Basketball....then why pull for UK. Maybe you should head over to the Harvard or Yale sites to argue your greatness there. Doing so on a Footballcentric board in a Basketball state......you are probably not going to get a lot of sympathy with your argument.

It is apparent you went to Trinity because reading comprehension is not your strong suit. You clearly stated Trinity has been dominate in football the last 25 years. Wrong. Trinity has been dominate since 2010. The prior 15 years X had the edge. Those are the facts.

Trinity has won exactly one state title in basketball. They are no state power. So Trinity hangs everything on football. If you can't grasp X is the far superior sports program and frankly, far superior high school including academics and facilities, that's your problem.

St. X had a nice run in the 1990's where they won more of the matchups. That is the only recent decade that St. X had more wins. The Tigers have a losing record to the Rocks in 4 of the last 5 decades. You are correct that we have won 12 out of the last 13.

EDIT: Here is the list that doesn't include the four most recent defeats for X.

If you are going to bash someone on reading comprehension I have always found that having grammatical or usage errors is not a good play. The word is "dominant." Trinity has been dominant since 1970. That is the FACT. I posted the records. You can play games by sliding dates to meet narrative but you just look foolish. Everyone knows X is a has-been school who cannot even beat Bowling Green.

If FACTS matter:

'70's THS wins 8 - 6
'80's THS wins 9 - 6
'90's X wins 7 - 4
'00's THS wins 10 - 7

Add 4-0 in Trinity's favor for 2015 and 2016 which is not in that list.

Long ago (1997), they both administered the same exam to prospective students. I acknowledge not knowing if it's the same now.

I'm mostly just talking smack; there's nothing wrong with Trinity as a school.

The same exam is not the issue. It is what X does with the results that Trinity doesn't. Trinity takes all, even those with learning disabilities. X wants no part of "their kind" so they hand them a map to St. Matthews. Trinity does not discriminate. This has been the case LOOOOOOOOONG before 97 and is today.

Of course, your reading comprehension rivals the other poster. I clearly answered his claim Trinity has been dominant the past 25 years. Trinity has clearly been dominant since 2010. It wasn't a sliding scale- it was his assertion. So I suggest you have someone google the results of the past 25 years for your benefit. Once again, all you can argue is football because you know Trinity pales in every other facet to X.

Ha, that's an interesting interpretation.

If they have roughly the same size student bodies, but St. X is "selective" (they're not, really) and Trinity takes everybody, what does that say about the applicant pools?

Trinity very well may have programs for specific learning disabilities. I know Assumption does (and SH does not). That doesn't necessarily make Assumption holier than SH--it's more realistically a reflection of supply/demand.

Anyway, wasn't actually trying to get into this. My first post was that St. X dominated between the Brohms (ie, the 90s). Your data seem to support that assertion. Agreed, agreed.

Ignoring the ad hominem attack, I said St. X dominated between the Brohms. There was a stretch in the 90s when St. X won 7 of 8, including the 1997 state championship game. It was to this stretch that I was generally referring (also generally the only period of my life when I've followed or cared much about Louisville Catholic High School football). I'm aware that Trinity has the better of St. X overall. I'm also aware Trinity won state in 1994 over the Shaun Alexander Boone Co team (I was there, pulling for Trinity).

Anyway, you're obviously one of those "last word" types so have at it. Didn't mean to get you so farrrred up.

Eastern has nearly as many boys as Trinity. Trinity played them twice, score 104-0. Do we add Eastern to your list? Lafayette has about 200 boys less than Trinity. Is it the number of boys that guarantees success. Certainly size does matter but that is not a huge difference in total male enrollment.
That is just dumb, Lecter. Trinity has an advantage in that it has kids who have parents that care and are involved. Public schools have all the rest of the kids, many of whom are not academically eligible. Go look at the numbers at each grade level at the public schools. The senior classes are often half the size of the freshman class. Many don't have support. My son played with a player who missed practice time because he had to work to support his grandparents who were raising him.

Trinity and St Xavier are select schools. If they are recruiting using illegal inducements, they should be punished, but I'm sure their opponents would be pointing this out. Even if they are not recruiting, many parents recruit their kids to those schools out of the public schools to get them exposure to get college scholarships and to get the best coaching. Public school coaching is pretty much hit and miss. The fact that the private schools are almost always at the top in football is not at all a shock given their built-in advantages. They should be, but puffing out your chest and telling all the other schools to "get out there and compete" is the epitome of arrogance and entitlement. It is why I have a lot of disdain for their fans. Be gracious. Realize your advantages. Consider the plight of the kid who is getting his brains beat out on a team with 40 players including freshmen that is trying to compete with schools like Trinity. It takes a lot more courage and fortitude to play at a public school than it does to stand with 100 upperclassmen on the sideline at Trinity.

My comment was in reply to a person who said Trinity is good because it has more boys. Go argue with him. I was pointing out that the total number of those with Y chromosomes on campus does not guarantee Trinity success on the field. I used EHS because it is the largest HS in the state or nearly so. It should be better.

Listen, you all sound ridiculous arguing over which rich school is better. Everyone else in the state laughs at these schools.

You can see these kids as college freshmen from a mile away. I know very few Trinity/X alums who aren't complete weirdos.

Finances aside, I would never send my child to one of these cesspools.

Trinity has done that on its own to a degree. They also add in the top Nashville teams. Trinity has a winning record against them. It is frankly a waste of time for Trinity to play the 7th region teams on its mandatory portion of its schedule. Trinity went 5 games in that portion without yielding a single point. Eastern, Ballard, J-Town, Seneca, Ohio County. 300-0 total score...teaches nothing. The playoff run was like 250-50.

So to your point I agree. At a minimum add a super-conference to KHSAA and allow any of the schools in KY that think they are good enough to compete. Certainly Male can compete. Bowling Green humbles Lou St.X each year. Let them try REAL big boy football. Highlands on occasion. Trinity did not do the Cinci teams this year for some reason. Those have been a tremendous rivalry for the Rocks in the past 5 or 6 years since Trinity won the National Championship in 2011.
I like this Super Conference concept. You would need a workable plan for populating it, and ultimately repopulating it annually based on some sort of performance criteria. It could not have a static membership.

I'm sure that is intended as an insult, but I have no idea what Fairdale is. I'm from Lexington. But seriously folks, let go of your glory days and stop arguing about high school kids.

Well then being from Lexington you certainly harbor deep seeded resentment over the T and X "weirdos" you run into somehow. Everyone laughs at? Nervous laughter probably because they are probably your boss and while getting yelled at nervous laughter helps keep some from crying.

HAHAHAHA...this is really the stereotypical response. I went to GRC HS in Winchester and I'm proud of it. I live in Louisville now and my son went to St. X and goes to UK now. Not knocking GRC, but my son's path in life will be a lot easier because of the foundation that he has.

I'm not sure what your definition of cesspool is, but you couldn't be further from the truth. The opportunities that these schools have for kids is unreal. The networking that goes along with it, is better than all other schools in the state. Both are great schools. -- It's fun to argue who is better. It's a rivalry, just like UK and UofL. That's what fans do. It's what message boards are all about. Maybe were are on the wrong thread but to be so narrow minded about the two schools is foolish.

I used to be insecure as well and would laugh at these schools, but then I grew up.

Its funny. Being a THS grad and having close friends, employees, family members who are X grads as well as Rocks....we tease each other about our greatness...I argue that we are the states Flag Ship institution much to the chagrin of my X "bros," but it is all in fun and with due respect. We fight one week a year, but the other 51 we are brothers. Heck, from grade school CSAA sports and going to church....we all share that common bond. And as you said, the network of alumni is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door.

I understand the jealousy. People hate the Yankees, the Patriots the Lakers and of course BBN. That is a badge of honor. Respect.

Yeah, my son is at UK now with a bunch of Trinity guys and he likes them all. When he was in CSAA he didn't like so and so, then they went to X together and then they like each other.

It is funny....as long as my son is making better grades than his Trinity friends [roll].

You don't get it. You are still refusing to acknowledge the disadvantages that large public schools have. This is your arrogance showing through again. I think I'm putting you on ignore because you are the type that will never change. You are the reason I'm glad that the parents of the Bryan Station players sang "Hey, hey, good bye" and the Trinity fans were muttering about Lexington Central, a clearly racist slur that I had no trouble picking up. The smugness and arrogance of the Trinity fans was thick that night.

One reason large public schools fail is because some people focus on their disadvantages rather than maximize the advantages. For better or for worse, football matters at Trinity. There are 100s of parents and alums that give their time and support to the program. They fill their stadium and opposing home teams's stands. When large public schools care as much about a thing, they are often successful, because of their inherent advantages.

My son played middle school ball for a state champion team. He played with kids who later made college rosters. I saw the recruitment up close. The one kid who was a better football player than basketball was recruited out the wazoo. When my son went to HS, his football coach spent every Saturday at parochial school games right next to the private HS coaches, recruiting.
You don't think coaches try to recruit a kid to stay in their public school system? I don't think it should be considered a big deal if a private school coach tries to talk a kid into going to their school. After all, there are a lot of advantages to a private school and it's up to the family to make that decision. It's a problem if the recruiting looks more like college recruiting with free gifts and payment and all of those things.

Public schools can beat the private schools. Colerain in Cincinnati is always a tough opponent for the GCL private schools. It's not impossible to compete with those schools. Some of those schools in Cincinnati have a ton of students and should really be better than they are.

How does this question come from my post?
The public school folks always complain that the private schools are recruiting and taking their athletes. Well, the public schools have those kids in their school system (usually) at an early age and have years to convince the student that their school is the best spot for them. Private schools doing the same thing shouldn't upset anyone. I don't think it's a huge deal UNLESS we're talking about improper benefits and gifts and those things.

If a student goes to a private grade school the private high school, which is usually a separate school, is not taking the kid away from the public school. The public school never had them.

My stepson went to St X and my nephew is going to Trinity. There are some kids that can't get into St X, academically, but can get into Trinity. That is a fact.

And you have better chauffeurs driving your precious country club students to school in the morning.

I don't know much about either school, just think Trinity takes advantage of recruiting, bad for high school football IMO. But the thing that strikes me as odd is you talk about country club students and that is exactly how you come across to me, LOL.

UK also has excellent programs in basketball, baseball, women's basketball, softball, volleyball, track, as well as your dissed sports of golf, tennis, soccer, but not sure about cross country and swimming. I notice you capitalized cross country, was that your sport?

I believe Trinity kids just outwork every other school in football. That's the bottom line. They work hard at it all year round
