Winner of this ballgame more than likely wins the conference championship. I think Watauga is a slight favorite but Hibriten is more than capable of winning in they can protect the football.
The last 4 years conference games have been terrible. It is nice to watch a competitive ballgame.Agree with both… IMO HHS wins out the whole dang coaching staff needs coach of the year honors in conference. This conference hhs needs,,, the competitiveness, venues, gates ,, it’s been good for hibriten so far.. Only one loss that churns the guts this year so far and they have a chance to make that one right .3a playoffs bound us a good thing as long as they continue to improve
That to me is still the most surprising thing about Watauga’s loss to Maiden this year was the kind of mistakes and undisciplined football they played that nightI'd love to sit here and post like I knew a ton about this match up, but I don't. Heck I don't even live in Boone anymore, so watching my pioneers in person rarely happens.
What I can tell you, in my opinion of course, is this game comes down to discipline. I believe a few of you have mentioned that indirectly, but Ryan Habich does a great job of having his team ready mentally and from a discipline standpoint. If Watauga plays fundamental, disciplined football, I see it being a win for the pioneers. I know coach habich never overlooks any team and respects the talent each time has. Hibriten has a great deal of talent and it's homecoming. Tough call fellas.
Ya I agree. I believe I read in the paper, just before the season started, this is the youngest team overall that Habich has been a part of since becoming coach of Watauga. Inexperience is tough to overcome. That to me is still the most surprising thing about Watauga’s loss to Maiden this year was the kind of mistakes and undisciplined football they played that night
I was afraid this could happen… Panthers continue to make the same mistakes we have made since week 1!!!Laying the wood tonight. Really surprised by this score. I expected a last possession winner type game.
Both were very impressive last night!!! Watauga hitting their stride at the right time this year.. Good Luck the rest of the way and in the playoffsHabich game planning is really one of the best in the business. He gets the most out of his players through perfect effort. Freshman qb is gonna be solid for years to come.
I suppose that's why they play the game and don't just analyze the "on paper" match up. Those are some unreal averages.a much inferior ac squad had watauga on the ropes/dead to rights last week before pioneers ultimately stole it. games like that generally refocus a team. no doubt the coaching staff had the players FULL attention in practice this week.
Greene: 13-205-2 (15.8 avg)
Thompson: 14-96-3 (6.9 avg)
Horine: 5-62-1 (12.4 avg)
Roper: 2-34 (17 avg)
397 on the ground + those per carry averages … what in the hell — are we 100% certain we had 11 out there defending?![]()
Radio guys said Watauga dominated both lines of scrimmage. And most of the time the Pioneer runners weren’t getting touched until at least 5-6 yards past line of scrimmage
They did but the times we were in position, which wasn’t much, they were all quite shifty and made us miss many tacklesRadio guys said Watauga dominated both lines of scrimmage.
