4-6 South Iredell will travel up the mountain to take on a tough 9-1 Watauga team. I hear Watauga runs the ball a lot but can pass. They have a very good FB that will give South problems. I was surprised South Iredell hung with Cox Mill this past week only to lose 31-20. Tied at HT. Unless CM is dealing with injuries or players out. Probably see lot of running between two teams. I’m sure Watauga has a stout defense. Any thoughts.

I know historically South Iredell has really stepped up come playoff time. I haven't seen them play this season other than highlights. Watauga has a really good defense, but they can run clock or strike fast offensively. I think this will be a 42 - 10 type game.

South’s defense is lacking, and they don’t possess a ton of size. Their RB is a tank, but he’s all they have on offense. Stop him and you stop South

I've seen Watauga vs. Maiden film. Watauga is very comparable to Lake Norman. I'm thinking the way South played Lake Norman and Cox Mill, they're more than capable to make this a game. I'm just not seeing a blowout. I think this more of a trap game than blowout.

Man, I remember Page going up to Watagua for a 2nd round game in 2006, Coach Gillespie's first year at Page. We knocked Eric Breitenstein out of the game in the 2nd quarter with a concussion, and lost 15-14. The temperature was like 21 degrees with a windchill of 9. Coldest game I'd ever been to.

Watauga being underestimated is like a national past time at this point.
A couple of reasons for this. They play in the mountains, which isn't a statewide football stronghold. Their playoff history. Since 2012 Watauga has gone 7-10 in the playoffs. In 2019 they went 3-1. That means the other 10 seasons they've only gone 4-9. So, I don't think they're being underestimated at all. If anything, they're being estimated correctly.

I was at that game. That was a cheap shot EB took on a punt return. He shouldn't have been returning punts, but still. That was a cold game for sure, not the coldest in Boone yet, but still cold.

The good part about what you're saying is habich is an excellent game planning coach. He finds wrinkles in a team like no coach I've ever witnessed.

Those type of hits were common back in the day but they'll draw a penalty every time now.
Watauga will beat any team that is not overly athletic and disciplined. Watauga's issue is when they run into very talented and disciplined teams like Dudley and Weddington.

Ya they were more common, but that kid went straight for Erics head. We can call it whatever, but like pagepirates44 said, we knocked him out. It was intentional.

Oh it was more than likely intentional, but that was part of football back in that day. That play had no flags, it was considered a clean block.

I was one score off predicting Watauga winning 42-21. Good win for Watauga. Best of luck in the playoffs for Watauga. They have a really good team.
