On a Friday night against a nobody with our team? Not necessarily.

...and this is our problem. You get your *** to the first game of the season, period. Duty! I'm saying this to the students/fans in Starkville.

As a multi-decade season ticket holder, I can say that we've never had good turnouts to November games against opponents like Prairie View, even in seasons with really high expectations.

Edited: I didn't make it tonight, either, but most of my family did.

Depends if I had to work or study. November was always a busy time with papers, exams, etc.

I'm not blaming ticket holders or loyal fans. I just want to basically know where the hell are the students? It's a sad crowd and I don't get that for the first game.

Nope. I'm as hard on the student section as anybody, but expecting stellar attendance at a November game is just, well, strange. I don't think those have ever been well attended. And going to a basketball game is certainly no one's "duty."

It's going to take a little while for our fans to get back on board with basketball. Attendance wasn't great early in the year two years ago when we were a ranked team with good talent, so I wouldn't expect solid crowds before SEC play this year. We're also coming off a 10-win season, which we would love in football but not really in basketball.

No problem at all if a student has other priorities

Granted I was state after undergrad. But I was still the same way with my undergrad as well. I paid for school by working and therefore I studied a lot because I saw the damn bill. Call me a nerd. Fine. Don't care.

I will agree that a lot of the students are probably not working on school right now. That's a pretty easy assumption since I spent many a great quiet night in the library on Fridays and Saturdays.

Also, have you been to fall games previously? The crowds are almost always light.

I never said "stellar attendance." I just want some faces. I think it's a bit of a first game "duty" to attend the game of a team that works their *** off for a 2nd year coach. Yep, as a student, I think you can find a seat for 2 hours. You really disagree with that?

Absolutely I do. I went to a lot of games as a student. But going to a basketball game is in no circumstances somebody's duty. School, work, family--those are duties.

Really? Are you looking at the crowd tonight from a college of 20k and a city of much more than that?

When I was a student (00-04) until now I don't remember these games being well attended by students. You've got a combination of end of semester tests/exams, crappy teams, and more interest in football. This isn't something new.

I conceded that a lot of students probably just didnt go

What else do you want? I still say early season games have never been well attended. And I get your point about 20k students and Starkville, but to split hairs here Starkville is less than 25k as of 2012.

I went to the opener last season and me and the 3 guys I went with were honest to God 4 of MAYBE 12 students there. At least more than that showed up for this game.

WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THE STUDENTS/STARKVILLIANS???!!!

As someone who attended the game, there was a great student turnout, all things considered. The lower student level was mostly full, which cannot be said for the rest of the coliseum. Turnout overall was very poor. Not remotely surprising, however.

Andygator is STRONG and amped up my frustration on attendance. I get it...on the crowd reasons. I really do hope we can support Ray and the team though. I like watching the hustle. I'm doing my part this year, even being several hours away.

I didn't notice much of an uptick overall, though there was one right after half that was extremely ticky-tack. There were a ton more fouls called in the second half, really slowed the game down noticeably. 6 in the first 2:53, I think it was, though it may have been 5 and one soon after.
