I don’t think East Duplin will be the best team in the East next year, but I think they deserve to be #1 until they lose or give a reason to not be #1. We do it for every other state champion. Just my 2 cents.

Wallace, James Kenan, Clinton, Northeastern will all be in the mix.

East Duplin will hang in there. Lots of holes to fill with a big senior class (with rings 😎) departing this season. I’m with oldway, we’ll be a tough out coming season’s end.

To start the 2023 season top 5 in the east should look like

1.ED
2.Wallace
3.Clinton
4.JK
5.Northeastern

Obviously bias but I believe Clinton will at a minimum be playing for Eastern Championship next year we return basically the entire team. Aslong as the injury bug stays away it’s going to be a very good year for the Darkhorses.

East Duplin is 22 State Champion! Doesn’t mean they should be ranked #1 in 23. Ranking doesn’t mean anything on Friday nites anyway
So how many times, in any sport, on any level, is the champion from the previous year not ranked top 3 or so? Just curious. You damn sure wouldn’t be able to tell Shelby, Reidsville, or Wallace folks any different if they had won.

Funny how everyone else gets that luxury. Not that I care that much as I clearly stated I didn’t think we would be the best team in the East. Just thinking out loud.

Thought I heard y’all graduating 15 seniors that most played a big part in your run. Still , kudos to ED in 22. Y’all definitely earned it

I didn’t think Shelby would repeat.Almost everyone else did. 21 was a special team. 22 wasn’t the same team

I don't think ED will repeat but they will be good by the end of the year. Going to take the coaches a while to get things figured out. But ED middle schools are by far the best I have seen in 10 years or so. Should be real good again soon. Plus I will never count our coaches out.

One needs to look no further than to see where the posters who posted on this poll are from. I feel like I’m on Twitter back in 2020, I better go no further or I may get kicked out. SUPPRESSION

That would be more accurate than any other post. Our team returns almost everyone and definitely all our top players with the exception of #3.
Y'all going to be in the hunt. As of now I just think Clinton is the team to beat in the east. Could be wrong though. An edit to this. If I was your coach I would be doing my best to get Tarboro on your schedule every year since they are closer to Northeastern.

1. ED-champs until someone knocks them off
2. Clinton-should be very strong next year
3. WRH-JK tie

NE, West Craven, Princeton, Whiteville and all the others are a tier lower until they can prove to get over the hump. I’m not saying that any of these teams can’t do it but it has to be proven on the field
