It's not really a gimmick when

we're wearing a uni designed for a different game, which we've already played in. It's just another jersey now.

Please...no "hail state" on the back of the each jersey.

The two special unis, the one for the snow bowl (when it was hot as hell and no one gave a damn about a minor bowl game played about 10 years ago) and the egg bowl fiasco uni didn't help...both failures...embarrassing as well.

I would actually like to see more gimmicks....at least with respect to play calling.

What do you think a uniform is supposed to do? I really didn't see any uniform failures...No one's jersey fell off, everyone's pants stayed up, I was able to tell our players from their players, and the numbers were legible. I don't think anyone expected the uniforms to cover Manziel.

The goal of the alternative uniform is primarily marketing, and secondarily something fun for the players that might help with recruiting. Personally, I thought it was dumb to commemorate the Snow Bowl, so for me personally it was a marketing failure, but I have no idea if the uniform worked for other people or for the players.

What was the purpose of them? The only impact was that they were embarrassing...win or lose.

I think we add some gold to the snowbowl unis. Not on the helmet. I like the Notre dame color contrast.

Me too, but at least we'll be wearing them more than once

I doubt they were cheap. We should be using that money to pay our assistants more and/or find a DC.

We probably won't be taking them to College Station next year as the visitor uniform ....

I wish you were designing our uniforms then. I can see the vision in your conviction. You would make sure our team would be suited with an armament that would wreak tenacious havoc upon the opposition once they have been gazed upon. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to help you out there, but maybe someone with the power will make that happen for you.

It wasn't the uniforms per se, it was all they hype that the uniforms were a part of. Acceptable idea if we'd won the game; highly embarrassing if we lose. And we lost. Doing something like that is a high risk venture.

Well, I certainly don't get it. If the only reason a player comes to play at MSU is because of hideous uniforms, I'd as soon he went somewhere else ... it means he doesn't have his priorities in order. And I've never heard a single story of a recruit committing to MSU because of special uniforms.

For the record... this years' Egg Bowl uniforms were the same as last years' Egg Bowl uniforms except for the base color scheme. Last year we wore all maroon uniforms with gold lettering for the Egg Bowl and it worked out just fine.

Uniforms don't matter people. Just win the 17ing game.

You make my point better than me. The only certainty in this thread is that everyone has an opinion.

People need to realize that a lot of these players signing to all of these universities honestly don't give a **** about the universities traditions, prestige, or what those universities represent. A majority of the players the schools sign are kids that really couldn't tell you a 10 year history of their respective school.

They either sign to a school that is either the most attractive, gives them the best opportunities to go to the next level, shows them the most attention or a combo. Of course there are those athletes that legitimately grew up loving the schools they sign with, but those are vastly in the minority.

I really don't give a 17 if a player signs to a school because they like the uniforms or their facilities, as long as their time at that place is beneficial for them and the university then I couldn't ask for anything else. People need to realize that not everyone of these recruits is going to have the same love for their alma mater as they do. That's why these schools go in all of these different routes to separate themselves for their competition. It is not that hard to understand.

It drives me insane to see people act like a uniform means anything toward the outcome of a game. I hope you guys are kidding when you act like it makes a difference. I guarantee you everyone will love these uniforms if we beat the **** out of Northwestern in them.

Do you really think the jerseys have any effect on the game at all?

are you sure this is correct?

Stricklin repsonded to a thread on twitter in response to uniforms after the bowl matchups were announced. It could have been foreshadowing, but to me he was repsonding to the fan that we were not going to be wearing special unis:

Scott Stricklin<s>@</s>stricklinMSU I believe our options are White or White. RT <s>@</s>Sherlock_Romes: <s>@</s>stricklinMSU no new uniforms. PLEASE!

How does it make a loss more embarrasing? Losing always sucks, and is sometimes embarrasing, but I don't see how having some fun with the uniform selection somehow makes the loss worse. Its not as though wearing alternative uniforms means we are really, really trying to win, or that the game has some extra significance. Hell, we wore alternative uniforms against La. Tech last year. Losing to Tech would have been embarrasing, but not because of the special uniforms.

I think throttling our marketing department down is a huge mistake. I appreciate all the hashtags, billboards, uniforms and ideas being generated from them right now.

Because all of the hype leading up to the game means that we fully expect to win and the other team doesn't have a chance. Shows a bit of arrogance. And yes, it meant that the game had special significance ... thus the extra white paint on the field, the #snowbowl2012 in the end zone, and the "faded" numbers, such that it appeared that the unis were snow covered and that we were hard to see like it was in Shreveport.

At least, that's the way I see the whole thing. Opinions obviously vary, and that's a good thing. I would much rather see us come out in our home uniforms ... maroon over white ... instead of looking like the visitor, and just play the game.

Boooooo. Hashtags are gay. And while I initially liked the billboards, our athletic department can't go around bragging about how they're awesome for recruiting.

We're not going to get more fans or anything because we hashtag an endzone, put up a billboard of Moultrie, and wear gaudy uniforms without players' names on them.

Marketing gimmicks just make us look cheap, cheesy, and desperate. I don't like them.

It might be an opinion but that is such ********. If you hype a game because you fully expect to win, then why the 17 did we not hype up USA? Games get hyped because people expect it to be a good game because it actually means something and that they feel that their team has a CHANCE to win. Who the hell hypes up anything that they expect to win?

I don't agree with that at all. We have worn alternative jerseys against Alabama and Florida -- I hope the team was confident going into those games, but there is no way the team or the fans "fully expected a win" and that Florida or Bama had no chance. And did you even notice that TAMU also wore alt uniforms against us? Were BOTH teams claiming they fully expected a win, and the other team had no chance?

A lot of people on here claim the alternative uniforms are for recruiting. I suspect they help in recruiting, and I know our currently players generally enjoy wearing them, but its all done for marketing. It is marketing for MSU football, and it is marketing for Adidas. People notice the uniforms. Whether they like them or not, they talk about them. It probably does attract a few fans, and it probably helps sell merchandise for Adidas. That's all its about.

As for the Snowbowl stuff specifically, I thought it was dumb. It didn't make me hate the game, I just didn't really see the point. Whatever message we sent by memorializing the Snowbowl, the message was NOT "we fully expect to beat TX A&M and they don't have a chance." We were just recalling a meaningless bowl game.

I don't care what uniforms they wear in Jacksonville. I just hope the vertical stripes are history.

On the big stage of a NYD game we should promote our brand - which is a maroon & white uniform with M State on the helmet.

My issue is "Hail State" on the back of the jersey and the gold numbers. It is embarrassing to get your *** handed to you in that phony ****. I'll say it again: Good college programs wear their school colors week in and week out. Oregon is an exception, but I say we let them have it. Here are some examples of teams that almost always wear their colors: Bama, LSU, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA,, etc. These gimmick uniforms make us appear smaller than we are. We look like damn fools in them. Make it stop. Could you imagine a Saban team in that junk? I sure can't. When he accepted corporate unis, he negotiated to make sure that they still looked like an Alabama football team. That's more than I can say for some of the **** we've trotted out there. Ugh.
