I’m gonna go watch Hoosiers now, and try not to think about the main character getting eaten alive by rats in the end.

I would sell everything to watch State win a national championship in football. I never would have thought I’d see us win a natty in anything in my lifetime, and we won it in baseball. BAH GAWD WE WILL WIN THE NATTY IN FOOTBALL ONE DAY!!

Mark Cuban isn’t the reason they won this natty. They don’t have any 5 star players on their roster and only a few 4 stars.
They won this one by Cignetti money balling it. But now everyone knows the recipe. So Cuban money is what will keep them relevant. It’s like the sabermetric stuff in baseball, the teams with resources can do it too and will. The BIG is about to make the SEC’s run look pedestrian. We are a welfare school in a conference that’s quickly losing its luster.

Less about money and more about leadership and coaching....to this point. Now the top is blown off and now that IU money will really work. At least until Cig retires or dies.

Sec was not good this year. Big has won three in a row.

Or at least asking their people how they did it so that he can replicate it at MSU.
Glad you asked that, Kirk.

Need all fans to start giving SOMETHING
Well, the current strategic plan is to give give give. Got to get players players players. Trying to be Ole Miss. But there's nothing for the fans to rally behind, we have no history or track record of doing this, where they do. I honestly think Lenny has let this get away from him a little bit, and this team has essentially turned into what MSU fans envision the best way to play here - running QB and solid defense. And that may be true.........but it's not Lenny's model. That's concerning, in addition to the failures to date. Lenny isn't a bad offensive guy, we know he can toss it around the yard.....but that qualifies him to be an OC, not a head coach.

2 things can be true at the same time.

Indiana didn’t win the natty bc they out spent everyone.

Money matters.
We agree here, very simple concept. So many fans want it to be black and white.

So back to Fact's initial question. How can we replicate Indiana? First we need a competent, long term AD who isn't looking to leave. He's went out and sold fundraising and got some money in here but that money is being squandered and won't be here in the long term. And we need a president who sees eye to eye with him. How to do this, I have a few ideas, maybe an advisory committee, whatever. That keeps the plan consistent and doesn't change every time we have personnel changes.

The overwhelming thing to me is we need to lead with defense. We've never done that before in our history yet most of our success has come from defense. That is where we spend our NIL. Get a defensive head coach. Recruit, develop and keep MS kids (high school and JUCO) who are more defensive oriented anyway. Utilize FBS and FCS. Get a strength and conditioning coach in here who understands STRENGTH BUILDING, not dancing around like fancy suburban Atlanta crossfit fairies. Does the offense need to be niche? It could be, but not always, but definitely needs to be different. Go find guys at lower levels who are doing things differently and aligns with our defensive methodology.

Will our fans believe in a method like this? Probably not. We don't know what we believe in. So that renders this whole conversation moot and why our football culture sucks. Best be happy with baseball, something we know how to do.

Im pretty sure Mark Cuban spent millions to keep the 2 star QB that Miami rejected for a walk on spot.**** I am confident they will be buying some players with his second donation. Im guessing they improved facilities or hired Cig with the first donation ? Idk the facts

Bottom line: I disagree with those that think this changed the sport and now anyone can win. The shift is from schools geographically close to talent, meaning the South, to schools with best resources and the ability to mobilize those resources to assemble a good team. The BIG and schools with large, rich alumni networks are going to be the new SEC.

The one advantage we had, proximity to talent, is being diminished. This is not good for us.

A team with less talent just won the natty.

They have talent but they don’t have as much talent as the teams they consistently beat.

the differences are coaching and the more talented teams don’t have as much talent as they once did. Why? Bc of NIL.

First it's we don't have an IPF, then it's we don't have the money, now it's our alumni base isn't big enough, always excuses for state fans

Is there anything NOT true though in your statement?

How many teams in the playoffs have all of those, probably all of them unless maybe Tuland and JMU?

NIL and transfer portal means the blue bloods can’t just stockpile talent at every position like they used to. It is more spread out now, meaning more teams have a chance to win big.

They paid a lot in the portal. You are placing entirely too much weight on HS recruiting rankings. When you are looking at portal guys that doesn't matter at all. They went after guys who had done it on the next level, and got a lot of them.

They bought grown *** men. The average age was 28 or so. This is the interwebs, im exaggerating
The average age for their starters is 24. In an older world those are second and third year pros for the most part.

That team is loaded with older experienced talent. They ARE well coached but the talent and experience has more to do with it than anything. That's a young pro team 15 years ago.

Back to the "largest alumni base". This is true. However it doesn't explain why they went from terrible to NC Champion.

You would think if an alumni base that large is key. They'd been better many years prior. They were awesome in basketball but should have been champs every year if the alumni base was such a big factor.
