We have to make a change at safety...

Has Nikoe made a play all year? He acts like he doesn't give a 17! Also, why didn't we drop lb back into coverage or move the safety over to help?

As for your first question, Whitley has become a liability back there, plain and simple. And the fact that he was lined up to cover Moncrief on some plays tells me that Wilson needs a pink slip, badly. Our secondary is going to be bad next year without a coaching change.

Second question: don't expect our defensive coordinator to understand how to manage our defense. That's just silly.

I give Whitley a bit of a pass. Coming back in 10 months from a ruptured Achilles and being expected to play safety in the SEC is no easy task. Plus the guy rarely came off the field all year. I think he was out of shape when the season started and never caught up. Just stayed worn out all season.

The Broomfield experiment was a failure but I don't know who we had who'd have been better. This one's on the coaches for not having depth developed at this position.

It's not the Achilles. On Moncrief's 70 yd+ touchdown, Whitley didn't start back peddling until Moncrief was about 2 yds from him. By the time he turned around and started running, Moncrief was 2 yds behind him going full speed. Deon Sanders couldn't cover doing **** like that.

And Whitley has taken horrible angles all year. That could be the Achilles. Maybe he was just that much faster last year and hasn't adjusted his angles to match his speed.

Well....

slow to react to every thing thrown his way. Arm tackling and missing tackles on a consistent basis. He needs to be replaced and is almost always out of position. Have you watched him play the 2nd half of the season? How many times has times has Banks and Slay crawled his *** because he wasn't where he was supposed to be? Also, after getting beat he seems to walk/trot around like he doesn't give a 17.

What the fk you want him to do? Cry? And who da fk do you think Banks and Slay are to fkn crawl somebody's ***? Maybe if your head wasnt so far off in Banks and Slays ***, you could see all the other players out there too. Banks got ******* on last night but oh....I know. It was Whitley's fault.

I think Whitley is a good example

Of us not utilizing the strengths of our personnel. I bet if you asked the worst football poster on here what Whitley's strengths are- they wouldn't say pass coverage. I bet.

Anyway- the way to use Whitley is by blitzing and allowing him to attack the ball carrier. But Chris Wilson has to pretend that he is Tony Dungy and play soft zone all night. Asking Whitley to sit back and allow something to happen in front of him takes away his aggressiveness as a player and it puts him in a bad position and it makes him a liability because he is not being used properly. And I would guess as a player, if you're not being used properly and being taken advantage of all night, it would affect your body language.

You just obviously don't understand defense. The safeties were non existent last night. The corners were covering the guys decently well. In the schemes that we were running, the safety is supposed to come over the middle to cover the post route, which was pretty much what they beat us on every single time. Had Ole Miss been going for the deep outs, fades, or comebacks, the corners were in position to make plays. When the receivers go inside during the post, the safety has to come over and take it away from them. Ours were not anywhere in the vicinity at all last night. Whitley is possibly the worst coverage safety this year that I have seen in a while. He is a great baller, and a run support guy, but he has been a liability in the pass game the entire year.

Banks and Slay did not have a stellar night either, but they were doing their jobs which is more than can be said for any of the safeties. The linebackers were pretty nonexistent in the second half as well. The yards after contact against them is just atrocious. I thought the D Line did ok, they were getting pressure in the pass game and penetration, but they had noone to step up when the forced the runner/QB another direction.

I'm glad you decided to join the party last night. Have you not watched our defense all season.

Sure Whitley lays the wood. But please don't ask him to make an open field tackle because he'll melt off them like butter. Please don't ask him to not let anyone deeper than you on the field. Please don't ask him to take a correct pursuit angle to knock the receiver out of bounds.

Injury or not: give me Arrington, Hughes, or Calhoun over Whitley. And if two players are equal in ability, you play the younger.

Whitley just doesn't need to be covering anyone. Blitz him and put him on special teams. That would be an interesting idea to have one player blitzing on every play from every different angle throughout the game.
