Even if it's just $5 bucks per adult and $1 per child. If we 40K, it could be $150K or more for the athletic department.

Who wouldn't happily pay 5 bucks to watch the spring game?

I thought they've always charged $5 except for students. At least, that is how I remember it when I was a student.

But, I do think they should be moreaggressively trying to earn money. I see no reason whey they should not, for instance, be selling cowbells inside the stadium right as you walk-in.

Me. The spring game was one of the most boring things I've ever been to. If I'm in the Junction and a few beers into the afternoon, I'll stroll in if it's free. I'm not gonna pay for that level of boredom, though.

The product we are putting on the field is worth way more than 5 dollars a student. It's the lowest in the SEC by far, and the way those things are selling the first day they are available, I don't see any reason why we couldn't do that. 10 dollars a ticket is very reasonable, and I think it would still be the lowest in the SEC. Let's just say roughly 10,000 student tickets packets sold. Now 10 dollars per game. That's $600,000 instead of leaving it at 5 dollars and getting $300,000. That enough money to increase the salary of all the assistant coachesby a fair amount. We could use an extra $300,000 a year.

Seems like I remember they used to charge a few bucks when I was in school. We would only have a few thousand show up. This was the late 90s with some of best teams of all time. Granted, Sherrill's spring "games" were nothing more than an open practice. Really dull.

before.

Was it free last year......I simply can't remember.

But yes, charge $5 and buy a middle linebacker for 2012.

Maybe we didn't charge last year and that is what happened.

Does uofm charge for their spring game?????

I know students may not want to hear that, but if they knew what other universities were charging their student base for football tickets, they would appreciate it....

not to mention we have the largest student body in the state....we allow 11K student tickets, and what do we have, 21K enrollment? they few students that would balk at the additional money, the others would pick up no problem IMO....

Missing out on over 100K seems like horrible idea.
Not taking attendance and then announcing the attendance is the same as the Egg Bowl score seems like a horrible idea.

If you don't want to pay 5 bucks, then don't. There will still be tens thousands of people that do.

I assure you charging 5 bucks would not suddenly drop the attendance down to "just a few thousand".

Some people are just not going to pay $5 per head for a spring game. We want to encourage enthusiasm for our football program and charging for the spring game will not do that. Increase student ticket prices and season ticket holder prices if you want more revenue.

So you wouldn't pay 5 bucks to watch the only live MSU football you'll get in 9 months? I don't believe that, and, if true, you are in a very small minority. Especially considering you'll already be in Starkville/on campus.

We'll charge for the spring game AND increase student ticket prices. That'll probably increase the budget a million bucks or so.

I would suggest selling at the maximum price that allows for all student tickets to sellout. $15 would be a bit high, I think. Maybe $50 a year? We are only barely selling out at the moment.

So, the "only live MSU football for 9 months" is ********. It's a glorified practice and I go to support the program, watch beisbol, see old friends and drink beer. Not to get my "football fix".

You're wrong on this, and I know that you're wrong because Byrne and Stricklin haven't implemented this, and they are exponentially better at being an Ath. Director than you are, mainly because they are Athletic Directors and you're a student.

The activity fee that students pay each semester includes $99 which goes to football...The school collects this money whether students physically attend the games or not

Thus, the $21 season ticket is extra money

That is why the student tickets won't change, because students pay much more than that; however, it is not marketed as such

How about being a Tennessee student? And paying $45 per game to watch the excitement of the Vols

I think we can afford to up the total cost to more than $50. With 6 home games, we can afford to go to $10 a game and make the pack worth $60 dollars total, especially with the quality of the opponents we have at home.As long as enrollment continues to go up and Dan Mullen is the coach, students will be in the seats.

but didn't student tickets sell out in one day last year?

I'd hardly call that "barely selling out".

As others have said, I think you could easily go to $15/game and still sell out.

this is a terrible idea. While I wouldn't be against paying $5 to see this, I can guarantee you there are people that wouldn't. Hell I think the only reason I ever go in is because it is free. It's just too damn boring to pay money to watch. If Mullen wants 40k at the practice, they better keep it free. If they start charging, we'd be lucky to get 5k there.

I shall come better prepared this time. And I'll also try not to almost get arrested in the Junction for being a "smart ***" to a cop again. I didn't know they could arrest you for that. Campus cops with power trips? Odd.

Almost as bad as whoever decided to televise certain school's spring games and actually include live commentators. Who in the 17 wants to watch that stuff.

"Wow, that second string QB looks pretty good against our third string defense."

I would happily pay $10 to drag a cooler in. Otherwise, $5 is a waste of time. The game is boring as hell.

It might have changed in the last few years, and if it has maybe tusk or someone else knows. I couldn't blame the athletic department for raising ticket prices to $10-15 though. Auburn and Tennessee have the most expensive student tickets and they cost around $90 for the season.

Terrible idea.

People don't go when its free. Why would they go if they had to pay.

Like Iverson said. Its practice.

Maybe they could only charge a couple of bucks per ticket or something. And then do something else to raise money.

and if my failing memory serves me correctly, I believe a student ticket was about $20... I'm sure they are higher now...<div>

I have no idea if its changed since then. Converting student tickets into guest tickets were as high as $80 last year.

Even if it did, I'd make the argument that 25K paying folks is better for MSU than 35K free entrance. They don't take attendance anyway. What does MSU gain if 40K free people get in? They could make 100K if they charged admission.

That 100K could take MSU from dead last in assitant coach salaries to 8th in the SEC. That's not worth 5 bucks to everyone?

Maybe we could put a donation bucket at the entrance, and that way people who want to give a donation can.
