Sportsnut, to answer your question, starting in 1961, EM won in the mid-60's, the mid-to late 80's , a couple early 90's, and a couple in the early 2000's. Other than that, it has been all WM for long stretches of time, including the last 12. East won in 2008 if you count a 49-0 on the field that was forfeited. That's the asterisk that everyone mentions.

Thanks as I said in my original post, not wanting to see a peeing contest just kinda like HS football history.

No problem. I thought it was a relevant question. 40-15 (or 39-16 based upon your point of view) is one part of the story. Your question was another part of the story.

Game week starts today. Tic tock buzzards......tic tock. Two weeks to talk about the game has produced some interesting banter. My prediction on the game is West Montgomery 42 em 28. West Montgomery's defense finds away to shut down the outside passing game of em, contains McKinney as much as possible and em doesn't have a proven option behind him that is a game changer. West Montgomery does what West Montgomery does. Score the football in numerous ways. Special teams, defense and with a balanced offensive attack that keeps the buzzards guessing throughout the game. No one on here has approached the coaching match up I don't believe. While Hammer at east is a fine coach and has done good things he's not got the experience or stability on his staff that the Warriors do. The obvious advantage to the coaching battle goes to the Warriors by a landslide. Before some of the snarky comments from the buzzard faithful fly I know the coaches aren't playing in the game. But they are the ones controlling the plays and making the decisions.

Enough about the actual game.... with all the hype, the top five ranking and with what's on the line for em if they lose to West Montgomery Friday night that loss will have to hurt the buzzards as much as any of the previous 40 defeats!! Not to mention after a first round cakewalk in the playoffs it'll be interesting to see how the buzzards bounce back from such an emotional draining defeat. Not that it should surprise them....it's a birthright for living on that side of the county!!!

Just listen to all that hate. Why can't we just enjoy good clean competition from some really good high school football teams. I feel sorry for you. Life is short. Why all the hate?

Yes, I meant to put Deaton. My apology.

Hate lol?! The East side hates the West side much much more. He's just giving you guys a dose because if West wins, nothing will be said, but if East wins, Dear God!!!! And you know that's true.

Yes hate. Mr. Harris is the only one I've seen on here calling names like Buzzards and Whipping Boys. You are the one that borderline personally calls out a player. The East supporters on here haven't. I sure hope you know and like and respect Mr. Harris since you take up for him so much. As far as hating West I sure don't I know quite a few players and parents and fans and I wish all them the best of luck. I've pulled for West on many occasions. I truly believe we all in Moco win by having two good football teams. I bet other counties wish they could say they had two 10 and 0 teams playing each other for a conference championship.

I'm very excited to see this matchup. Maybe I'm biased but I'm giving the edge to the Warriors. That being said, the Warriors cannot take the Eagles lightly or go into the game with the attitude that this will be an easy contest. Much respect to the Eagles and the progress they have made. I'm proud that we have two quality teams here in the county. Whoever prevails should enjoy the win and prepare for the road ahead, same as the team that doesn't. Hopefully there will be plenty of football left to play for both teams after Friday night. Oh yes, history does matter but having heart and going all out does too. Go Warriors!

For my West Montgomery friends on here and others too if you have a opinion on it. Who is the best running back to ever play at West and why I do you think so? You guys have had good ones like Carpenter, Horne, Little, Leake just to name a few. I have always wondered.

Im an EM guy, but my vote is for Tyrone Horne. The WM old timers I know say Poole is the best player, but Im not sure what position he played.

Borderline calls out a player, good grief. Nothing that every EM fan didn't talk about. And I at least owned up and deleted it. And I know very very few EM fans that have ever pulled for West.

Hard call on the greatest one ever. There have been many great ones, but not really a Robert Siler or Tony Goss type. Possibly due to the offenses which were more team oriented. I'd have to say Tyrone Horne though I would like to hear some names from the 1975 team, and from some old timers of the guys in the 70's.

I thought Tyrone my self but just really didn't know about the 70's. I did hear Poole was a very good player. I also agree there has been some great ones. I think Joe will be talked about in the same sentence has the great ones.

My dad graduated from wm in 1978. He always told me Ray Charles Young, hands down. Played RB of course....

Ray Charles Young is 1-10. I've seen just about every RB to come through there and I'll tell you if he was playing today he'd be a top recruit in the United States. It was a different time back then and recruiting was nothing like it is today. Eddie Poole was a do it all player. Tyrone was awesome in every sport. There's been a ton of others but those who are too young to have seen him play just ask around the older crowd.

As far as the comments about "hating" on the buzzards...I'm guessing you are one of those whiny little "safe space" people who doesn't like to hear negative words or engage in friendly banter. My, my times have changed. Hopefully I didn't hurt your little feelings too bad. Don't worry, Friday will be here and over soon. Just find your happy place and pretend that it's filled with rainbows and unicorns.

Sounds like you got me figured out pretty good. Didn't Poole play Division 1 football somewhere? Trying to figure out how many West Warriors played D1 and I believe one play pro right.

EM will be ready. I believe they have a few tricks up their sleeves also. They have more playmakers than #2 from what I've seen. Those kids are winning and have worked hard all season, let them be excited! Lol. Anyways should be a great game!

Poole and Jackie Baldwin both played at NCSU. Marke Powell played at ECU. West Montgomery's Dwaine Carpenter played at NC A&T and in the NFL. Mostly for the 49ers. West Montgomery has a few playing at App now and over the last 30 years have had dozens of players play at smaller schools. I'd have to consult the guru on others that went D1 but those are the ones I am aware of just off the top of my head. The list is way too long to put on here for the smaller schools.

I remember correctly, Poole played professionally, in CFL. Could be mistaken

Deer season for me Fan! That and I think the buzzards are just too jaded to actually get on here and have a little fun. They know this is their Super Bowl and the way things are looking this year could possibly be the last legitimate chance they have to beat the Warriors for a while and possibly ever if em91 and his cronies are successful in shoving the central high school down our throats. They lose a lot this year and West just a few after the huge losses from last season. They may also be fixing up their victory floats for the parade they'll have in Biscoe on Saturday if they should happen to win Friday night. Some of the posters on here from em have kids that are in middle school that haven't ever seen the buzzard victory parade after a W over the Warriors.

Poole is the most decorated of the bunch. Made the Shrine Bowl as a junior and the East West All Stars as a senior.
Can' play in Shrine Bowl as junior. He played in the Shrine Bowl in Dec. 1970 after senior regular season and East/West in July 1971, summer after senior season.

JDub!!! The man has spoken. What's your opinion on the running backs. I've heard of the Young, what's your opinion him and the rest?

Also East Montgomery fans, who's regarded as the best back to suit up for the Eagles? Is McKinney gonna go down as the best of All-Time on the East side?

It's hard to compare eras , Mike Dowdy was very , very good as well as Antonio Hill . Measuring track times Dowdy was faster than McKinney, but I think McKinney has a different gear on the football field . Jack Cagle , Chuck Morrison , and Alex Ingram all close . It's a toss up between Dowdy and McKinney with Hill very close in my opinion.

Dowdy was the fastest, Hill was flat out nasty and would run over anybody in his path. But I would have to pick Jack Cagle just because he brought so much to the table as a leader. Never will forget the game against West (81 or 82 maybe) where he went off in every aspect of the game. Unlike BD I can say Montgomery County has produced some outstanding athletes from both schools. Both schools should be very proud of the current situation we have. Great coaches and dedicated young men that play there butts off because they love the game.

Warriors I'm I wrong in thinking that there was a really good running back late 70's early 80's name Allsbroke .
