West Virginia basketball guard Miles "Deuce McBride is expected to entered the transfer portal this week, multiple sources confirmed to The Wheeling News Register.
The 6-foot-2 guard recently completed his sophomore season, helping lead the Mountaineers to a NCAA Tournament Appearance as a #3 seed. West Virginia easily won their first-round game against Morehead St but was upset by #11 seed and former Big East rival Syracuse in the second round. In two seasons, McBride has averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 60 games. He was first on the team this season with 15.8 points a game and also led the team in assists and steals and was the Big-12 player of the week on two occasions during the 2020-2021 season. McBride also took care of the ball as well as anyone on the team who averaged more than 20 minutes a game.
No reason has been given for the transfer at this time. The Mountaineer men’s basketball roster will have a different look for the 2021-2022 season after the transfers of Emmitt Matthews Jr and Jordan McCabe. However, things area already different with Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil currently set to play in Europe. Gabe Osabuohien has said he will return to Morgantown next season. Also, according to SI.com, redshirt freshman forward Jalen Bridges is rumored to be testing the NBA waters along with center Derek Culver.
"Deuce" attended Moeller High School in Cincinnati where he was a two-sport star in basketball and football. As a senior, he led Moeller to a 29–0 record and their second. Division I state championship. As a freshman at West Virginia, McBride was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
