What about the Navy coach as head coach?

worked with Paul Johnson to GT. I'm sure he'd run a tight ship.
He would be a good coach for Rutgers IMO. But...
*His offense is a gimmick offense that players who want to play on Sundays don't want to play in.
*He's not a P5 Coach.
*May be too expensive.
*That offense will never work vs P5 teams.
*He's not Greg Schiano.
*Option football is too boring.

*He's not a P5 Coach. Why?
*May be too expensive. So...he IS a P5 coach?.
*That offense will never work vs P5 teams. Disagree (see: Georgia Tech)
*He's not Greg Schiano. So?
*Option football is too boring. As opposed to our current offensive style of play?

Just my thoughts.

I think I would prefer Willie Fritz. Georgia Southern coach. Shotgun option with spead and pistol concepts. They are on ESPNU now vs Georgia.

How about we realize we have a coach and people stop starting a new thread every time a name pops into their head. OR just put all this worthless drivel in one thread This board isn't hiring a coach.

Option football works against P5 teams. The zone read is based on old-school option football concepts. Ohio State, Clemson, Baylor, TCU, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are all using it.

My fault. Maybe i should've put all of my list in quotation marks from quotes from others on why Rutgers should never hire a coach who runs the Triple option. Even though I'm a fan of the Triple and would like to see Rutgers run the Triple since i think the pro type offense may have run its course. Somehow I get into arguments with others who I agree with.

And to answer the original question, Coach Ken would be a great coach for Rutgers.
*He is a respected coach.
*He knows his offense in and out so he can make adjustments.
*He has beaten P5 schools, mainly ND.

That crap has beaten one SEC team today and is tied at 17 with another SEC with 4 minutes left in the 4th.

I'm calling it now. Georgia is going to beat Georgia Southern with a BS SEC penalty or a big gain.

Well, Hermann is off the board. Not because he signed an extension or is too expensive, but because he just lost to a TERRIBLE UConn team. Doesn't that eliminate consideration?

You called it right. Failure to review what clearly was not a catch in the end zone!

Guess not, because some on here are crying to bring back a coach who once lost at the worst possible time to a then-mediocre UConn team. (Not arguing for or against in this post, just pointing it out.)

Its like Rutgers feel they must run the pro style offense because they must prepare their players for the pros instead of preparing their kids to compete vs Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State Wisconsin, and the other B1G teams.

I wouldn't want the triple option either, but does the fact he has been involved with it the whole time he has been at Navy (because it IS the best scheme for the their program) mean he would be wedded to it if he left (which I don't think he should because he is great at Navy)?

He did do 5-6 years in stints as an assistant at Hawaii and UNLV and I don't know that they were running the triple option then.

He is obviously a good coach because "he runs a gimmick offense that teams aren't used to" doesn't explain away how Navy has played good enough defense with undersized players to keep a lot of their P5 games close.

Niumatalolo has done great job. Playing triple option allows them to compete with more talented teams. The fact that he plays that offense could be a function of where he coaches but not necessarily that he can't change his offense if he coached elsewhere

I have mentioned this, I think he is a great choice

- Has beaten plenty of p5 teams
- Worked with even stronger academic requirements than we have
- Solid off the field presence
- Triple option got Georgia Tech to the Orange Bowl and they are usually an ACC contender. I could see it working here

I would like to see him as a candidate.

It got us to levels never seen before including 9 or 10 bowl games. Winning almost all of them, while putting tons of kids in the NFL. It's been a success, not failure. A huge success when you look at our history.

In a much weaker conference resulting in mediocre bowl games.

The pro-set needs to go. We can't recruit at the levels needed to make the pro-set work in our division.

That said, leave my coach alone. lol

Willie Fritz almost pulled the upset at Georgia. I watched the whole game, if Georgia Southern didnt muff a punt they would have won. His version of the option was fun to watch, not under center like the academies. Shotgun option with pistol and some throwing. We probably would have went into a shell and got gashed for 40+ points at UGA. Fritz will probably get looks probably Iowa State or an SEC school looking for edge over a retread. National coach of the year two times in FBS and sun belt coach of year last year. I don't know if he would be in my top 5 if we fired Flood but I think his style would work with our recruiting base. He got torched at WVU to open the year (his starting qb was suspended) not sure if it was because WVU had all summer to prepare for his offense or that air raid > shotgun option take air out the ball.

Too bad Georgia did beat Georgia Southern or Mark Richt and his pro offense would've been available lol.

Whatever. It still did what I said it did. Get the right coach that can recruit to it. Flood isn't that guy.

FWIW -- Saw Schiano today in Sarasota restaurant. Damn, he looks young! 2 yrs w/ no pressure @ $3.5 million per year served him well! Ecept for the grey at the temples, could pass for 42 instead of 52.

Whatever? A bird **** on your Bugati?

By leave my coach alone, I was talking to the thread and RU fans pining for Ken N. I wasn't defending Flood.

And Julie wants a spread coach, so if you want the pro-set, you better hope she gets fired too
