We have no Big 12 Rivals period. Closest would be Kansas in basketball and Texas in football. The rest are just teams on a schedule.
Grew up in Greene County PA so I was closer to Morgantown than Pittsburgh so most Greene County PA folks are WVU fans. The Pitt WVU games were what most of us looked forward to and miss terribly. After that its got to be Penn State.
Who do Penn State fans think of as their rival these days? B1G tried to force MSU on you as your rival, but thinking it's more like Ohio State and Michigan. Maryland seems to be a made up rivalry as well, and one sided when it comes to football.
We weren't rivals with Penn State. WVU circled the game, Penn State mostly yawned. You have to have a lot closer win loss ratio to be rivals. Mostly, except for a couple of games, they just consistently kicked our asses.
Well as a Penn State fan I am not sure we have one in the BIG. Maryland nor Rutgers has never been our rival. Michigan and Ohio state are each others rival not PSU. Michigan St no, Indiana no. Penn State's rival is Pitt, then WVU , Then Syracuse. That was my fear when they joined the BIG and even though they have been in the league for what 30 years they still don't fit in that league.
I went to the PSU vs WVU game in Motown 1988 where Major Harris and Company let us have it. Couches were burned wings Ole food was consumed and I was heckled as a High School senior because I had a PSU shirt on . It was an experience
I watched the game with my father in law, who played football at Penn State way back. It was sweet!
You can’t put VT in the more recent era. For that you need to replace them with Iowa State
Nah, Penn State's biggest rival is Ohio State now. That's why at every Penn State home game vs. tOSU, there is a "white out." The Nits don't do this at every single home game vs. any other school. Ohio State's only rival is Meatchicken.
They don't, but its definitely PSU most anticipated game if the year....and when they had Pitt on schedule recently.

Wrong. East Carolina is 3-19 vs. WVU (.136) and WVU is 9-48 (.169) vs. Penn State, so the comparison is legitimate.

LOL! I've almost been here as long as I lived in WV. The locals still think of me as an outsider after 30 years. What I like about them, they're a lot like WVians.
Disagree- VT and WVU played just a few years back and on message boards it never changed- people still consider them a heated rival.
ISU for whatever reason never really became a special game.
There was a rivalry between WVU and PSU not unlike OSU and Michigan over the last few decades. Michigan doesnt win very many but its still a special game on the schedule that means more than others.

Went over to Spitt's board to see how many WVU fans were there. Answer - 1. And that was only in a post that mentioned WVU. We have more Spitt fans here just counting all your iterations and incestuous kin at 3:00 A.M. on Tuesday nights than ever frequent the Spitt board. If that isn't evidence of being over Spitt, what is?

For that post you did to break it down, yes one time here lately does not fit your breakdown for the current era. Iowa State shares a lot of common things with WVU. If you saw my first post in this thread I didn't break down eras and included vpi.
VT was the most heated game of the year when I was student...early 2000's.

They were winning at that time, that will increase the craziness. When I was in school, Pitt was it.
Miami 03 game....20 dudes in the dorm, all enhanced on god knows what....that kellen winslow catch on 3rd and 13....

When I was at WVU the Pitt game was fun but didn't mean much....this was before 07..
IIRC they had one ok team that was ranked coming into Morgantown and we beat them at home...

For old Don Nehlen-era fans, PSU May have been an exciting upcoming game/rival. For me in the Rich Rod-era, I always felt VT, Louisville, Pitt, and Rutgers were the main rivals and even USF was a quality rival back then. I never felt Cuse was a rival but I can see how they could have been during Nehlens years.
that catch was brutal. But at least we have “the run” to take away from it. And it alerted everyone that the Goat Rod era was here to stay.
