1) I learned that Bama was way better than I even thought. So disciplined and physical, I really don't see how anybody in the country hangs with them unless they can exploit the secondary for some big plays, but that will take the OL holding up. Their offense is just efficient and AJ reads defenses well and is extremely accurate.
2) We must get more physical if we want to beat the Bama's and LSU's of the world. We got beat pretty soundly on both lines of scrimmage which makes it near impossible to win.
3) We had some chances to make a game of it in the first half and just didn't make any plays. Then Murphy's law took effect in the 2nd half. Bama's first drive we had the LB come free for what should have been a sack and probably would have resulted in a punt. instead we whiff and the drives continues and they score a TD. Our first drive we have the FG block. Later we pin them at the 8 but 30 yards of penalties gives them the ball at the 40 - they score and we never respond. We also lost a big offensive play on our 2nd or 3rd drive when Smith got wide open and Russell just overthrew him.
4) I have no clue what our offensive overall gameplan was but all gameplans haves problems when you constantly start inside your own 15. And we struggle to run the ball out of power sets with perkins. I really thought we would try to attack them more like OM did but we seemed to want to use the middle more than the outside.
5) I was worried about our DL/LB play and they didn't show up for most of the night. We got pushed around for the most part and honestly it's been a problem all year. Most surprising is our LB's have not played great against the run and that's been a real strength for the defense the past few year. By contrast Bama's LB are incredible against the run.
5) I feel really good about our QB's - they are both tough and confident. Dak's throwing has come a long ways - we should be fine there for the next 4 years.
7) I think banks was only at about 85%
8) I thought our WR play was pretty good tonight given what they were facing. As the announcers said - when you can stop the run with your front and keep 2 safeties deep, it's just hard to attack.
9) No way dak should not have been in for the end of the 96 yard drive series. Pound it 4 times and if you don't get the yard so be it.
10) hard to blame our return team on the fumbles. Both times a Bama player put his helmet on the ball just right - tough to do once. Very rare to see it happen twice. The Skinner punt thing was a total freak play.
11) Was it me or did our defensive intensity just seem a bit flat. We just seemed slow to the ball all night and never seemed to really lay any licks on their guys.
All in all a pretty disappointed performance and we have to mentally rebound quickly to face a red hot A&M team. I fear Johnny Football is going to cause us some problems defensively but hopefully we can just outscore them.
