During the Sugar Bowl, it suprised me a little when they showed a mother of a Lville player and said she was battling AIDS. I didn't hear them go into details in how she got it, just threw that nugget of info out and moved on.

So my question is.... What are some unacceptable announcements about your family on ESPN?

"Well, there is John Doe's father Tom who has been battling a sex addiction for 10 years....back to you Jim"

That would be awkward if they couldn't tell who was the mom or dad.

Apparently it is inappropriate for a commentator to refer to the sideline girl as "sweetheart".

She could probably file a HIPAA lawsuit if she really wanted. Unless they had her permission before the broadcast...

I don't think that's how HIPAA works, or all the news in the world would be in trouble for reporting that George I has been sick. And Hillary.

my wife asked about that too. What if the mom didn't want the whole world to know about her condition? ****** move by the announcer if he didn't have permission.

I imagine that she is not hiding the fact of her illness. If she had chosen to keep it quiet, I doubt it would have been reported in this case.

Some people think that illness is not something to be ashamed of. Imagine that.

Agreed.

Not sure how they get their information- if it's directly from the player and those involved have OK'd it, I guess it's game. But I know a lot of kids really don't want that stuff to get out- and their parents don't either.

Not really sure why they feel the need to talk about that... I realize they want things to talk about. That's still pretty crappy.
