What is going on with football recruiting?

Then going off of your line of thinking no team should be happy with recruiting for the 2025 class, correct?

Hard to put a lot of faith in recruiting rankings unless you're a team that retains a lot of its players.

Call it cautiously optimistic rather than happy if someone signs a good class? Thinking no one should be happy is taking it to an extreme, imo.

But something I didn't spell out before. If we can't be sure a signee will commit, or that a commit will spend more than a year here, I am quite cautious on celebrating recruits that haven't even signed yet.

Throw in Jontae Gilbert (another 4* DB) and that probably rounds out our DB class with 3 4* players and one 3*.

We lead for 4* OL Shed Sarratt and Jaylen Gilchrist

Taking a swing at 4* OL Juan Gaston who is from Georgia and a big time talent; he's been on campus a few times and is coming to the spring game

We are taking big swings at big time 4* / borderline 5* LBs Zayden Walker and Tavion Wallace. Zayden will hopefully be at our spring game and has been on campus close to 10 times.

We are taking a big swing at high 4* DE Jared Smith and he seems to be receptive to us

In decent shape with 3* DE Taeshawn Alston out of North Carolina

Just had Anthony Addison commit this week who is a higher upside DE (3-4*)

Taking a swing at 4* WR Adrian Wilson who is from Texas and plans to be in for the spring game

Battling w/ UNC for 4* WR Malik Clark who is from SC

So you see, we aren't in desperation mode as you seem to paint it out to be.

I will say it's a bit concerning with our interior DL class so we need to turn that around.
A lot of "taking a swing" in that post. We aren't the only teams taking a swing at those players. Gaston has been to Tennessee 4 times on unofficial visits. That means he paid his own way there. Apparently UT is taking a big swing at him too. Walker has been on visits to everyone multiple times. Until they sign the NIL and show up they are no more a gamecock player than a player on the Clemson roster is.

The "offer" list is also misleading. Lots of schools make "offers" that are non committable to HS kids in 9th, 10th even 11th grade. Bama, UGA, Texas, Ohio State, all the top programs are well known for pulling the offer late if they get the guy they really want.

In fan's minds; every recruit that commits is a game changer, every 3 star is underrated and should be a 4 star, every 4 star should be a 5 star, every 5 star is going to have an immediate impact. The reality is; out of every signing class of 25 or so players if a coach can get 6-8 good contributors, that is a good class. Incoming freshmen are a total crap shoot. All of them were probably the best player on the field for every game of their HS career. When they get to college they aren't even the best player at their position on their team most of the time. Some can make the jump and a lot can't. That is why you see 100+ players dressed out on the sidelines and maybe 30-35 actually step on the field during live play. Every single one of the players dressed out was one of if not the best player on their HS team.
