It kind of feels like the few moments in the Titanic movie after the ship had hit the iceberg but the passengers were unaware what had happened and everything was carrying on as normal, even though by that point it was academic that the ship was going to sink.
Our recruiting sucks at the moment. The biggest news we've had recently is flipping a 3* from Wake and losing a commitment from a top '26 QB. Yeah, I know his commitment didn't mean much, but it's bad optics and optics are important in recruiting. Picking up a middling QB and losing a top QB.
Recruiting was supposed to be an area that Beamer was going to distinguish himself. He has picked up a couple notable ones in Nyck and Stewart, so kudos for that, but we pi**ed away Nyck's first year with him primarily pursuing track and who knows how he'll fully make the transition to WR.
Our '25 class has two low 4* guys and 13 three star guys. That is simply not a recipe for success in the SEC. In a class full of 3*, you might end up with one or two who outperform their ranking, but most will not. Yes, I know we have a few big guys still "considering" us, but we always do. I could make an all-time college football roster from 5* guys who had us in their top 10 but went elsewhere. We have 19 commits in the '25 class (including the kicker and long snapper) so it's not like our class is just taking shape.
We are presently 14th in the SEC for the '25 class.
I like Beamer and hope he can find success here, but unless he's the best developer of talent in the history of the game he's going to be toast based on his recruiting.
