What would be considered "we're back" for Nebraska?

Edit: I can't see what you wrote.

If we finished top10ish back to back years, I'd call us back.

If by "compete in the B1G championship" you mean simply get there, then I would suggest we "competed" in 2012 against Wisconsin and I don't think anyone here would consider that making it back.

For me, I think the team needs to be in the Top 10 again at some point in the year and actually have people talking about the program being on the rise. I think certainly an appearance in the B1G Championship will help, but actually being in the game late (or heaven forbid winning it) would be a good step in the right direction.

Fully back won't happen until the team wins a B1G Championship.

I guess I'm trying to come to grips with the "brick-by-brick" progress that our program leadership seems to be selling. I've said it before...HCMR was not the splash, rock star hire. Over time, hopefully he can get us there. I'll feel like we're back on track if we compete (i.e. are competitive) in the B1G game this year. Anything else is disappointing.

IF the meaning truly is, "Nebraska is back on the top of the national stage" then it is no doubt B1G champions and top 5 finish in the final polls. Then we will be back, not coming back, or on the way back, which people seem to be confusing it with.

Destroy the teams we're supposed to destroy, win the vast majority of the games we're supposed to win and stand toe-to-toe against the current bullies in the NCAA.

When the Blackshirts and the Pipeline lives up to it's past, would be a start. I think a couple top 15 rankings at the end of the year and a conference championship would do it for me.

When we are no longer worried about beating mediocre programs like Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota etc. And sure as hell not worrying about teams like Purdue and Ilinois to pull the upset.

When we break a foot off in Urbie and JimmyH's collective backsides and give Iowa the annual beat down they deserve......Huskers are back!

Recently Wisconsin hasn't been a mediocre program not in the least.

Yes they have and If we're "back" even a loss to the best Wisconsin team in the past 20 years would be seen as a huge upset.

A loss to McCartney's late 80's/early 90's Buffs teams or Snyder's late 90's KSU teams were massive upsets and those teams would absolutely destroy the Badgers best.

Wisconsin is on par with the mid/late 80's Oklahoma State teams with Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders (caveat being OSU had better talent while Wisconsin had more sustainable longevity)

At no point was OSU at that time considered a legitimate program against whom a loss would be an acceptable or expected outcome for us and if Nebraska were indeed actually "back" neither would Wisconsin.

Heck at least two if not all three programs I named above were at least considered legitimate threats to win a national title. At no point post Alvarez (and barely even with him) has Wisconsin been a legitimate national title contender.

The only mediocre year they have had in the last 12 years was in 2008 and 2012 when they kicked our *** in the B1G Championship game and they have have won the Big 10 in 2011 and have gone to 3 Rose Bowls and quite a few CapitalOne bowls.

2015 10-3
2014 11-3
2013 9-4
2011 11-3
2010 11-2
2009 10-3
2007 9-4
2006 12-1
2005 10-3
2004 9-3

Osborne never played for the national title every year either and that doesn't make you a mediocre program

Back as in really back: 2 conference championships in 5 years, with division championships in 2 of the other 3 years. One great years is only a start.

Top 10 final polls half the time. Always finish in top 25. Conference or National title years AT LEAST 1/4 of the time.
