We only have Boyd, Eulls, Virges, Cherrington, PJ Jones, Nick James*, and Quay Evans*. I'm not sure how we'll manage.<div>
</div><div>Seriously I think Boyd steps up his game with another Season under his belt, PJ Jones/Eulls/Cherrington all bring in lots of potential. Add in Autry at DE and our DL will be sick next year. Better than this year. We never had a real dominate outside pass rush.</div>

would be Josh Boyd and PJ Jones with Curtis Virges and Devin Jones as the primary backups. We also have Cherrington back and I'm sure we can move Eulls inside if we really need to.

He could stay another year and be a legit lottery pick. He's going to get drafted next year no matter what, so I'm not exactly sure the best decision is to go pro. Obviously I'd want him to do what's best for him, and if he's guaranteed first round money, not sure you can turn that down.

But if he does, I see the line being Eulls, Boyd, Jones, and Autry. </p>

Really?

I think Boyd is a very good player, but Cox had as dominate last 8 games for MSU than any player in the SEC, yet you honestly think the DL gets better without him?

I guess you could be right, because Autry is the real deal.

because of the experience some of the others got this year. If that is indeed his point, then I agree.

the gap inside with the loss of Fletcher (should he go) with the added improvement at DE. I dont think the DL will be better- but it will be a little different. If we play Boyd and Autry on the same side- we will force other teams to run the other damn way- and can stunt and gain tendencies from that. <div>
</div><div>And if Fletcher satys- holy **** will we be good upfront</div>

I think Autry, Boyd, Jones/Jones/Quay/Virges, Eulls (All with extra year of exp) will be better than Ferguson, Boyd, Cox, Eulls

of a pass rusher like Autry? I mean, he legitimately could be a top 5 draft pick if he comes back because he will probably avoid double teams with Autry coming hard off the edge. I know as a State fan I want him back, but it really does seem like he could benefit from it. Just wondering if a 21-22 year old thinks that way when that kind of money is in front of him.

D-end (who is supposed to be legit) who hasn't played a down of SEC football = a better line than this yr? Gotta love optimism.

yet that didnt happen. Our DE play was average at best this year- we are adding the best juco DE in the nation- we will be improved there. The improvement at DE will offset any dropoff caused by the loss of Cox- and we do have some good players returning there, plus some pretty good recruits to supply depth

I suppose anything COULD happen, but its not likely. By the way, if you really are a former coach, you know that having a dominant D-tackle can make solid linebackers look great. Ya'll are solid at linebacker, nothing special. White and KJ were special. If they had been playing behind this yr's Cox, it would've been incredible

And moved carmon to offensive line and failed to replace him on defensive line.

Our defensive line play was atrotious.

*** so as not to waste every ounce of sarcasm in the universe at one time, the motivation for it is that teams dont simply replace great players with nobodys. Many great players were nobodys at one time. Oh sure there is individual dropoff in talent, but others in relevant positions step up.

I'm really excited that we were able to get Autry, we are in need of an outside pass rush. I wish we could get Ward as well but that's the way it works out sometimes. I think Slay will step it up and it's nice to have Whitley coming back as well. We played a lot of guys on the defensive side of the ball, and I'm very confident we will be just as good overallnext year. My biggest concern is the O-line, I pray that Tobias will make it through an entire season without an injury and Day got a lot of experience this year, which will help. I hate that we're losing Ballard because I don't think Perkins is an every down back, either Griffin/Milton/Robinson will emerge and share the carries.

I guess anything could happen, but you don't get better by losing great players. Using your example, ya'll didn't get better at D-end by losing McPhee. It just so happened that Cox developed in to a dominant DT so the loss wasn't as noticeable. The question is "do you have another McPhee / Cox type player left?" I wouldn't bet on it

Like I said lb play was solid, not spectacular. Teams double-teaming Cox had a lot to do what that

no doubt having a good DL helps your LB's- just like have McPhee at DE locking down a side helped KJ and White last season. This season's LB's had to deal with very average play from Ferguson and Eulls starting as a R-Fr...<div>
</div><div>Not to mention in this age of Spread offenses, one of the LB's has to play outside as well as inside- and Deonte Skinner did a great job of that, especially the last half of the season.</div><div>
</div><div>Cox is real damn good- but as I clearly showed we had zero dropoff on defense and were even better in some categories. It wasnt all Fletcher- we are pretty good at LB</div>

I think with Autry and Boyd next season, our DL will be just as good as this season.

Auburn and Arkansas jump to mind.

Our DL can be improved because the Autry over Sean Furgeson is a bigger jump than the loss from Cox to PJ Jones. We won't stand as tough next year against Bama and LSU w/o Cox, but I'd rather have a pass rush DE for the other 'winnable' games.

Look we lose Cox who is a phenomenal player, you never want to lose guys like that but it's college and they can only play 4 years anyway.<div>
</div><div>We gain Denico Autry, a 5 star, #1 Juco DE prospect who has been described as Pernell McPhee but faster and stronger. We didn't have a great presence at DE this year, except when Fletcher lined up on the outside.</div><div>
</div><div>We return Josh Boyd (4 star), who overshadowed by Cox, is a hell of a DT in his own right. Next year he will get drafted. We return Kaleb Eulls (4 star), All SEC Freshman,Dwayne Cherrington, who plays a lot like Kyle Love did.PJ Jones (4 star) who saw a lot of action this year, Curtis Virges, who also a lot of action this year, and Devin Jones who provides quality depth.</div><div>
</div><div>We'll be adding Quay Evans (4 star) and Nick James (4 star) (assuming they qualify and sign) who will most definitely be available as needed.</div><div>
</div><div>So we lose a great player, add a great player at DE, everyone else comes back one year more experienced, and we add 2 new DT's with tons of promise. I'd say that certainly won't be a worse situation. However O Line is a different story.</div><div>

You guys can try to spin it however you want too, but the bottom line is that we simply reload on defense every year, and that will not change this coming year. You see, it takes more than 1 defensive recruit every year to make a unit. While Cox was dominant, he really didn't show up big until mid-season...and then he began to dominate. Our LB's were stout this year and they will be back with an additional year of experience next year. Add all of the defensive recruits to an already loaded bench, and we will be great on defense. If Ward would wake up and realize he's going to be throwin tha fin up next to CJ in 30 point losses for the next few years, he could come and join us in one of the best defenses in the SEC.

So to answer your question....Yes, we will be better even after losing Cox. Not because we're losing Cox (nobody is dumb enough to say that), but because we have serious talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Some of y'alls biggest recruits in the last 5-6 years have been complete busts. I think Eli may be the last guy to really live up to the hype. Some of your 2-3 star guys though have been solid players, yeah I'm talking about Patrick Willis. This year that Bryant kid played some good LB and CJ ended up eating his way to DE. But there just seems to be a huge number of guys like Pat Pat, Tig, etc..

If you are referring to the JUCO DE fromMGCC a few years ago then you would bevery wrong that he was the number one DE in country. Our coaches wanted to sign himto RS and put weight onhim and move him inside cause he was to SLOW to play rush DE in the SEC. The whole number one JC DE was allYancyBS

would be wonderful in their eyes to see a big drop off due to losing Cox and Banks and while they are certainly great players and will be missed if we can keep Wilson I like our chances on defense just fine next year. If the juco O-lineman are as good as advertised and we get improved QB play then we will be better on offense. Loosing Ballard will hurt but we seem to be well stocked with RB's. With the schedule, I see at least seven wins and possibly nine if the stars align.

Wayne Dorsey was the #1 ranked Juco player in the Nation when we signed him. He had offers from everyone in the country. If you guys only knew how much Yancy laughs at you, you wouldn't give him so much credit. It's funny to watch, whenever ya'll sign a highly ranked player then he's legit; when we do then big, bad Yancy is exerting his tremendous power over Scout's rankings. If I was you it would piss me off too though, cause Yancy seems to have more contacts in the recruiting world than any of the guys that report on ya'lls sites. I was shocked last yr when he started to call CJ to OM, but turned out to be true. He also said he wasn't worried at all about Brassell when he committed to ya'll. That kind of track record would piss me off if I was a State fan.

Damn we got some stars in the NFL! To answer your question, I have no clue.
