Who woulda thunk it. Saban offers Jones after the game today.

A lot of MSU people in Houston, plus Jones was coached by a former MSU player-my boy Billy Cook- Jones loves Wilson so we shall see. Come on Hassel make it happen.

Dude

Feel honored one of our guys is getting this type of attention. Tyler Russell was offered by Alabama. Did that matter? Relax, Jones is fine.

isn't this a compliment? you cats have a commit from (arguably) the best coach at the best program in the country and you take offense?

jeesh, if the guy didn't get an offer from Bama or enough stars, you'd say the 'crootin service was slighting you in Bammers favor.....

I thought Shumpert was more of safety that corner? Of course, if he's not playing rb.

Goat, every day provides a new opportunity for you to demonstrate, once aGAIN, that you are the f'n worst poster in the history of the interwebs. And of the need for psychotropic drug therapy. Go take your f'n meds, goat.

Todd, you're usually right but you are wrong on this one......

I've watched Shumpert a lot and he is not an SEC RB. Even his coaches will tell you that. He simply doesn't have the speed and that's the truth. He'll play safety or if he bulks up another 20 lbs or so, OLB. The coaches will tell him what he wants to hear but he'll play on the defensive side of the ball.

How fast do you have to be to play RB?

He's listed as running a 4.5/40. That's average for most SEC RB.

From the AL-MS practices
"The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Shumpert flashed his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and run with power during Tuesday afternoon’s practice, and today showed his lateral ability bouncing a pair of inside zone runs to the outside after pressing the hole. In two days, Shumpert has shown his ability as an all-around back, but remains a prospect with high upside on either side of the ball."

We can sit here and debate this all day long. I'm

relaying what his coaches have told me and he runs more a 4.6 - 4.7. I do know this, he couldn't catch Amory's WR's if they got a step on him and while they had a good WR corp for a HS team, none of them are D1, maybe with the exception of Dario Robinson. He couldn't catch Robinson and Robinson's time at big dawg was 4.5. Could he play RB at the next level, prolly so. Would he be the back many on here think, no IMO. He'd be a average RB but I could see him being a great OLB or safety.

All that may be true... but I watched Shump absorb a square hit from the #1 linebacker prospect in the country which ended with Reuben Foster on the ground and Shumpert running for a big gain. That's something that was sorely lacking from our RBs this year, outside of some flashes from Griffin...

Runs 4.6 - 4.7, delivers the hit instead of taking it... Sounds like Dixon.

In this case, this isn't my opinion. This what I heard that our coaches are recruiting him as. I believe it too considering that Nick Griffin just went down and we lose Perkins after next year. We need running backs, because as it is- we could get down to Josh Robinson and Derek Milton real quick.

He's not a scat back- he's more of a power back. That's something we really need too- since Dak is going to be running more zone read in a couple of years.

4.6 or 4.7 is plenty fast enough for a power back in the SEC. Or the NFL.

Kids gonna be a running back. For sure. His vision of the field is damn good and he knows how to read blocks from the sample size of film I've seen of him. Todd and Engie are right. He may not have break away speed but after Tyler leaves we are going to be a bruising offense in the Dak era and this guy adds yet another staple to that arsenal. Besides one of the best coaches on our staff is Knox and he can make this kid a beast.

amusing...

I dunno if we'll get Jones, or not... it won't make a difference to the program or the process either way...

and I highly doubt My Dark Lord is going anywhere; he's probably got 4-6 more years and 2-3 more NCs left in him...

and if he decides he wants to leave, I'll carry his bags to Ohio, myself and thank him for fixin' my 17d up program.
