Why another lousy crowd for the Texas game tonight?

It could be that another bad winter storm has made its way through the area....

If you watched the game they even said that the game was sold out.

I know you think everyone should risk their lives to WVU basketball games. We aren't a huge city where you can hop the metro and get the stadium.

Again...why do you care?

Why do you post? BTW: I was born and raised in Morgantown and graduated from WVU...instead of the childlike answer it would be nice to know where all the ticket "buyers" were. Seems to be a new norm for WVU events.

They probably felt the same way the team did. Didn't feel like there was any reason to show up because WVU had this one in the bag.

Because with this game and the Kansas game.....it was fully explained time and time again by the broadcasters during the game on why attendance was low.

If you can't be bothered to watch the game....why do you care that the arena has empty seats?

Nearly every ticket was sold. But thousands who paid couldn't get through the snowstorm. If you watched the game on TV you would know that. So you must not be much of a fan if you can't watch the game from your warm couch.

Simple - I came to town for the game and had everyone chillin at Gibbies for an extra long happy hour. People love it when Ol' Darth makes it to High Street and we just couldn't put an end to the party.

Had the same problem as an undegrad. I never made it to the games because I had all of Towers smoked out.

Ain't no party like Darth_Vadeer party cuz a Darth_Vadeer party don't stop....ain't no party like a Boreman South party cuz a Boreman South don't stop....

It just appears to me that attendance has been trending down for the Mountaineers and according to my friends who still live in MoTown there are all kinds of excuses...including the one that says "I only go to the big games now." I mentioned to him that Texas seemed like a big game...at least to me. Did I go...no...I am 1500 miles away...but NEVER missed when I lived in Motown...and as a student/athlete.

So more than 9,000 people risked their lives to get to the Texas game and you think interest in WVU is dwindling? Get real.
Cars were sliding all over the place. My niece slid and nearly had an encounter with the bus as she drove to WVU Coliseum.

24,000 showed up in TWO snowstorms and icy roads for two home games in a row. That's fantastic!

Negative Nancy!!!

Is you niece one of the drivers for the green lot shuttles. We had a female driver both ways and she did a fantastic job in the snow. She slid past the spot where we were to turn into the parking lot and she had to go down to the old Holiday Inn and turn around and go back. She did not have much room to turn around but she made it work like a pro. Great Job.

No, Woody, but she was carrying precious cargo: My sister, her mother.

The 4 of us have season seats together in Mountaineer Field. It takes me 13 hours from the time I leave Ohio till I return to Ohio, but it's worth every minute of my time and effort for the greatest bargain in sports, for me. I'm 83, but if I'm not in Mountaineer Field for every game you'll know that I'm resting permanently in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Just look for the grave marker (already there) with "WV" below my name and my late wife's name. A WVU fan into eternity.

This is what I love about "informed" posters..............

Last season, 2015, WVU Basketball saw its 6th highest average attendance in program history.

This season, we are averaging 9,217 despite our two biggest home games getting slammed by DOH's complete inability to do their jobs.... 6 more home games, which provide more than enough opportunity to get our average back up close to 11,000 a game... which would put this season into the top 5 ever.

So what good does it do to complain about something you no longer contribute to? And I'm speaking of attendance. I told my wife when we retire and move away, I want to be near an airport so I can fly to all the games. You can easily jump on a plane and join me in the stands if you wanted to.

Boy some folks can't read or understand. The purpose of this post (go back and read it) was simply a question about why the seats were empty. A simple answer saying "snowstorm" would have been the end of it. Instead, apparently any question that can be twisted into "dissing" the program becomes the object of moronic, juvenile insults. Doesn't bother me...just makes me wonder what the thin skinned forum warriors do all day long...if there are few posts to react too. LOL

This post was made after someone said "snowstorm"

and it started with an ignorant statement

Keep your ignorance to yourself. I said...I started this post with a question. Several, including you I presume, saw that as an attack on my school. Get a life.

What is going on there?
as its been explained in the past with football, it's not a WVU problem. It's a collegiate athletics problem nationally. The prices to attend games keeps trending upwards. With a struggling economy, most people would rather spend their money on bills and necessities rather than watching sporting events. Add in bad weather and road conditions, most would rather stay home and avoid risking their lives while watching it on tv for free. Plus, as the OP pointed out, we draw from a small population to begin with. The only schools not dealing with this are blue bloods

Again.......... the answer........ the weather......... was given......

and THEN you responded with your hear-say.......... uninformed hearsay none the less....

Despite receiving your answer, you decided to post "It just appears to me that attendance has been trending down for the Mountaineers and according to my friends who still live in MoTown there are all kinds of excuses"

dripping with personal agenda.................. and so I set you straight, by posting actual attendance facts...

You were found out, and you're mad about it....

As was pointed out, if you had actually watched the game (which you didn't) you'd have had your answer already. The announcers made it very clear, just like the KU game, what the issue was....

You may want to "self-check" your writing style. I try to be very neutral on this site but when I see a common attitude and approach to common issues, I can't hold back. You are an antagonist and your revel in it.
