Honestly, us not playing in both sports, but especially basketball, has more to do with our last POS AD (Pederson) and our last Chancellor who retired last year. The reasons mainly have to do with fan behavoir, but long story short, as soon as Pederson was gone our new AD scheduled you guys for a series in football. The bball game will come together soon I believe and I know it's being talked about at Pitt. Truthfully, Pitt views psu as our biggest rival. But IMO, the whole thing with fans on both sides saying we don't need each other, while true, misses the point. College football is built on passionate regional rivalries, and expansion has killed a lot of that. You may like playing the Oklahoma's and Texas's of the B12, but neither team views you as a rival. Same with Pitt in the ACC. Players want to play in these types of games and it helps recruiting. Pitt and WVU should play every year in both football and basketball, IMO.
