Now that we're in year 4, we're still rebuilding and that's what's frustrating.......However, the truth of the matter is that we are a very, very young team........Next year is Cohen's make or break year IMO........These youngsters still have a lot of room for improvement but there is some talent there.....He needs to recruit some damn power hitters.....We haven't had a good one in years.......Of course, the Dude is a pitcher's park but we sorely lack pop in our lineup and have for a long time........

the only SEC school that took baseball seriously. We aren't the only one any more. The truth may suck but this IS it. Thank goodness I think baseball is like paint drying as a sport. If ours dries faster then hot damn. If it doesn't then oh well.

We'll probably do a little better as the season goes on just by regression to the mean. It doesn't help matters that our hitting is mediocre.<div>
</div><div>Without the awful luck, we could've been a 2 seed, but we'll probably be a 3 right now. Not that it really matters.</div>

It seems most of our problems are self-inflicted. Making errors, watching 3rd strikes, etc. Injuries happen, I wouldn't count those myself, but if you are I get it.

Everyone deserves some of the blame. Polk coached in an era where we had an elite place to play and we were a top baseball program. He didn't have to recruit because his only real competition was LSU. Polk let players come to him.

While the rest of the SEC quietly started putting an emphasis on building up their programs, hit the recruiting trail hard, and upgraded facilities we let the game pass us by. Other programs jumped us in rapid fashion and Polk Part Duex just sat and watched it happen. His recruiting strategy and recruits coming to him and getting them from his summer camps no longer worked and we ended up with a team of mediocre pussies. We sucked while other teams, including our rival, went full force on the recruiting trail and ran laps around us.

We bring in Cohen and most agree he was the right hire. He is a hard nosed, no nonsense coach that coaches the game like he played the game. The 1st couple of recruiting classes that he brings in suck, not because he sucks but because of where are program is.

This is one of the main problems we have now. Many don't realize where this program was when Cohen took it over and too many of us live in the glory days of State baseball. We are years from that but many on here don't understand the game of baseball or the level of suck our program was at when Cohen took over. Many grew up not knowing **** about the game but just knowing that State is supposed to win in baseball.

Cohen has brought in some decent guys and had us in a damn Super Regional last year, something that I think most would agree happened much faster than it probably should have.

This year going into the season we are looking good, not great but good. We are starting the season with a strong pitching staff and a solid lineup, once again, good not great.

We have an unusual amount of freak injuries with a starting pitcher and multiple fielders. We have to rely on the rest of our bullpen and some young, zero experience players to play. One of our starters who was strong last year has lost/or does not have the ability to throw one of his pitches that he relied on last year and throws what equates to BP as a starter.

The younger guys filling in for the starters make the usual mistakes and don't walk out there as freshmen and knock the ball out of the park every at bat and make every play.

It is time for guys to wake up on here. We have been competitive and in damn near every game we have played with a rookie lineup. We have played our asses off and we are giving it everything we got. We are starting to recover from our injuries but we are still playing hurt.

What everyone on here needs to realize is this is not you childhood state team. This is not your childhood conference either. We are YEARS removed from being talked about as the "number one place to watch a college baseball game."

Cohen took over a program that had been left behind and basically left to die. A Super Regional last year was remarkable. Where we would be right now without the injuries, who knows but the season is not over. We need tomorrows game very badly but this program is trying to come back. The coach is fighting and the players are fighting but we are still a long way from even scaring where we were. Don't believe me, check the stands out or look at the attendance numbers for any game we have played this year.

In SEC games, our BABIP is .294, while opponents is .351. All teams should trend toward .300, so we are slightly unlucky batting and very unlucky pitching.<div>We have only been outscored 55-51, so 4-7 is pretty unlucky with that run spread. It's unlucky to be 0-4 in extra innings this season. That should balance out.</div><div>
</div><div>Add injuries to that, and we're a pretty unlucky team.</div>

Our budget is small.

We have gone from the highest baseball budget in the 80's to one of the lowest in present day...that often gets overlooked

at the end of Polk's tenure. He for all intents and purposes let the program go. The bears decided they wanted to compete in baseball along with the rest of the conference and they all started building ridiculous ball parks, recruiting hard, etc, etc. All of a sudden we aren't even the best program in the smallest state. The kids that we used to go into florida, georgia, and tenn. to get now go to florida, georgia, and vanderbilt. Everyone else has better facilities, better talent pools to recruit, and a strong foundation. We are almost like a new program trying to get started. On the field right now, we are young and not as talented as our opponents. I was hoping for more from this first group of youngsters, but I have come to the realization that it is going to take longer than I expected to build up our talent level to equal the rest of the conference.

Thanks you for taking the time to put this. Seriously. I completely agree with every word you said. You can't recruit elite players to a program when it's in the *******. I'm 100% percent behind your post and 100% behind our coach and direction of our program.

That everything would be ok because we were going to dominate vandy, UT, and Bama. Well, we are one loss away from dropping the series to vandy, Bama has taken two from auburn who beat us twice, and UT has a chance to win their series against south Carolina. Now, where are those sure wins again?? We may finish dead last in the sec.

If it starts w/ recruiting OM is a major reason for our hardships. They beat us for a lot of in state talent that we use to own. Flame fest on me begin

only SEC school that went all out for it. We also attracted better players because of that. It also kind of puts Polk as a corch in perspective. Maybe he just wasn't that great after all, even in his prime. Our demise definitely started rolling under Polk2, but the ball has started rolling long before that when other schools started taking it seriously as well.

Relative to the SEC....

1. Not enough in state talent to recruit
2. Tough to recruit Floridas leftovers to Mississippi
3. Facilities are bottom half of league
4. No state programs or sugar daddies to supplement scholarships.
5. Lousy fan support
6. ...and on and on and on
