Why is the anti-MSU bias tolerated?

This is a serious question. I don't want to hear that they are being objective, they aren't. By they I mean Marcello and Locke, the MSU beat writers for the 2 newspapers that actually cover MSU sports heavily. I think by now it's a fact that those 2 do not report objectively, but root for bad news, and temper the good news. They also show no respect for MSU with their tone. If you are in the camp of "that's their job", just don't reply. I disagree with that view, and I don't want to debate whether or not it is in fact their job. <div>
</div><div>But why do we sit back and allow it to happen, while our biggest competitors, even USM, have writers that pimp and promote their program? It is no wonder why Gene's Page is the best MSU site on the internet (we may not all agree, but the numbers and paid subscriptions don't lie). It's positive, but yet you will still get the bad news too. Nobody wants the bad news glorified. Why would we? Something is wrong with you if you do. I think some of us take the MSU humility a little far. We really need to stand up and demand writers that, at the very least, don't slander our school. </div><div>
</div><div>Maybe they want more readers? Either way, they've both lost me as far as their blogs go, and anything else where they can infuse their opinion. I don't want to hear their opinion. The newspaper was so much better back in the 90's where you had to flip to the opinion page to read that ********. But at least you had a choice. </div><div>
</div><div>At any rate, what do other fanbases do to put a hold on this? Or do they? Maybe I'm missing something, maybe Auburn's beat writers are just as horrible. I just haven't noticed it, but I don't really read many other teams' columns.</div>

I like how you said in your post "If you don't agree with me, don't even reply." Slander our school? Do you even know what that word means and the ramifications it carries. You need to chill out and stop being such a freaking homer. Marcello isn't paid by the University. He can report however he wants to. I remember most of this board bashed Veazey all the time, and Veazey was a damn good writer. I think this shows on how fast he has moved up. The sad thing is most of y'all want someone who pumps sunshine up our asses 24/7.

Also, Locke is lucky he is let in the reporters room. The guy writes for Tupelo Daily journal and has for years. He is at a dead end job and for some 17ing reason can't understand why a coach won't talk about injured players. It's a non topic now because as we saw today the players have worked their tails off and are back on the field. Locke is a hack and for some reason chooses to "needle" the hardest working man on campus.

Damn right. I would much rather have an ambassador for MSU than a smart assed hater. But I would definitely settle for someone who just reported facts.

Nonetheless, I don't subscribe to either paper, but I do look at the internet. I don't read Marcello's or Locke's writing, but many easy influenced people do - cue the Yahoo Sports article yesterday. It makes us look bad. At the end of the day, it probably doesn't matter. I just don't understand why MSU fans stand for it. Just my opinion. <div>
</div><div>Journalism as a whole has not suffered, there's just a lot more morons in it now. Just wish we could get more objective writers. This isn't an extraordinary concept here.....all I want is fair. Don't have to be sunshine pumping, just don't be some dead blamed negative.</div>

Veazey was a damn good writer and struck the balance between giving a positive slant or a negative slant to the news pretty much right where an independent beat writer needs to. I think he was the best beat writer we've ever had (I thought Sekou Smith was too much of a homer which was good in a way, but not really what a beat writer should be). Marcello and Locke are just not ood writers and and they're both too negative for a beat writer.

If genespage is the best MSU site on the Internet, then why are you wasting your time here?

Genespage is an embarrassment to Mississippi State University.

The numbers and paid subscriptions not only lie, they lie like hell.

That's by design. The CL has never let their writers stay on the same beat for too long.

They took Sekou off of our beat after a while also.
