Why not fire Pelini a year earlier?

So, if Pelini was a cancer--a man who poisoned the program and destroyed the Nebraska way--why wasn't he fired a year earlier? Serious question. I don't know the answer. It seems to me that if everyone close to the program could see he was so poisonous, retaining him an extra season would be tantamount to complicity in his crimes.

Maybe some boosters backed him? But even then, shouldn't people like Pettit have had the integrity to raise a ruckus?

And before anyone calls me a BOliever or such nonsense, I advocated that Pelini be fired after the Iowa game in 2013.

I know, wouldn't that have been great? B/c then we wouldn't have had to suffer through yet another ridiculous 9 win season in 2014. We could have had THIS instead.

I'm glad Pelini was fired. I knew he was a jerk. But the whole cancer metaphor has grown so strong in the last few weeks that I am a little disturbed he wasn't fired earlier.

Basically a backdoor, 23rd hour save by a Regent named Tim Clare. Tim, although a trust fund baby, was also pulling in a nice large salary from the Bo Pelini foundation.

So put this together Pelini gets fired, Tim Clare loses his salary from the foundation.

Pelini had some very fanatical supporters who kept the truth at bay.

So do you straight believe that none of this is on the current coaching staff? I mean, absolutely none?

So did you straight create another account, just to reply a certain post, by a certain poster?

To answer your question, no, that isn't my belief.

Purdue actually got their marching orders, and marched all over Peelini's recruits.
Oh, you guys are so adorable. What did we return, like 17 starters, including the QB, plus a ton of lettermen? Maybe Jake Cotton was just way better than I realized. There was enough talent to beat Illinois by 31 and @ Northwestern by 21, and Miami by 10 and Purdue by 21 and @ Iowa, and almost USC. Enough to win 9 games. Again. In hindsight, Bo must have been a much better coach than I realized to win so many games with so little talent.

Do we have tremendous talent? No. Does Illinois, Purdue, BYU, Northwestern, etc? No. I guess the difference between me and you is that you think we are losing to Illinois and N'Western and Purdue b/c of talent. And I think it's b/c of coaching. I think having your backup QB throw 48 passes is f*cking stupid. I think having Tommie throw 40+ passes is f*cking stupid. I think not utilizing Tommies legs way more than is arm is f*cking stupid. But, that's just me.

.

No. I just created an account because I can't believe some of the stuff and excuses I'm reading on here lately. And I wanted to get involved in the conversation.

Pelini's classes were ranked vastly higher than any class Riley has ever signed.

And then I see people blame Pelini for the attrition because the players didn't want to play for him, and some of those players not currently on the roster.

And then I see people blame Pelini for players not playing hard, because they are loyal to Pelini and not Mike Riley.

This is some of the most circular logic I've ever seen.

You brought up Riley...nobody else did. Is not using Tommy's(correct name) legs...who has had a case of the turf toe BTW anymore stupid than keeping a coach around who essentially stated the pressure of this job is killing him? Bo was just biding his time before 1. He left(nobody wanted him) 2. He was fired.

Apparently Bo had enough talent...just not enough to hold Wisconsin under 550 yards rushing.

Whatever fits the narrative. For crying out loud, we now have Harvey Perlman commenting as a so called expert about recruiting classes and a girls volleyball coach as a football expert as well. I sense that if we weren't embarrassed by Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue, we wouldn't be using Pelini as the scapegoat. As the losses continue to pile up the drumbeat will continue and get louder from sources you would never guess.

It's nothing but speculation to think this year's 3-6 team would hold the 2014 Wisconsin team and Gordon to few points. Sure, Gordon may have had fewer yards, but I'm pretty sure they would've made up for it in the passing game.

Hell, Nebraska just made a 1-win Purdue 2nd-String quarterback look like an All-American.

Hmmm, that is interesting. What would we be saying about Riley if he was currently sitting at 6-3 or 7-2?

Until the last few weeks things really haven't been as bad or as ridiculous as they are now. I don't need to explain why I decided to register and post here, whoever you are.

You couldn't be inaccurate. Of course you don't, you're not new, I already knew that.

You are right....and how again does that make Pelini a fit for this job and on the way to bringing in some titles?

I couldn't be inaccurate? WTF are you talking about.

And I don't really care what you think you "knew." You obviously have some sort of complex to be coming after me like this. Do the moderators here support this or what?

Missing a word in a sentence, or adding one, doesn't matter, I learned that in a different thread. You couldn't be MORE inaccurate.

No complex, you came at me, in your first post. Rinse, repeat, recycled.

Really? You were happy with Bo Pelini and don't think anyone else could replicate his amazing 9 wins season, in his 7th season? I don't understand how Riley's struggles in year 1 can possibly legitimize the Pelini era.

Sorry you don't approve, but in reality he knows more about bumping and setting vs. blocking and tackling. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season because I'm quite confident it's not getting better.

I'm quite certain he knows the dynamics and what it takes to lead a D-1 program quite better than just about anyone else on this board. I don't remember you listing your football credentials when you were defending Pelini the past 7 years.

You should be grateful I'm not a mod cause I'd ban you for the rest of the season. That way you wouldn't have to worry about it not getting any better.

Good for him. I certainly did not apply, or am qualified, for the vacant position once Pelini was fired. At the same time, I can at least distinguish good football when I see it. We have a dumpster fire in Lincoln and it's not getting better any time soon. No easier way to say it, Pelini is gone, need to start focusing on the here and now. A Chancellor, AD, Volleyball coach, media or ex-players cannot stop the games from happening. The bed is made, sleep in it!

"Can't stop the games". Stop slobbing on the knob of a pathetic, old liar, who pimps out his wife. To answer the initial question of this thread, there is a simple answer. Tom Osborne once again saved Blo, while once again overstepping his bounds. Every year he let Blo stay, this program kept going down. The loser never, ever filled a scholarship class. And now we are seeing the results of self-imposed probation at levels even Penn State could not fathom.

I don`t disagree with what you stated. I fail to see why an ex volleyball coach or good old Harv are any less qualified to comment than so many of our self proclaimed experts here on the board.

Commenting is fine and certainly their right, to me it's more the platform. All of us on the board don't have the access of the media to strategically make statements to attempt to defer attention from a failed season and coaching hire.
