The fans' momentum: Notice I did not say the team's momentum. I think we have our bye week in the best possible place in our schedule. Alabama will almost always be a tough game to prepare for. I'm interested to see what Mullen can do with two weeks to prepare.
But man, I'm pumped. After the season we have had, playing Florida close and beating Kentucky on the road, the MSU nation is pumped. Some guy is so pumped he's ready to tackle Jevan Snead. The consensus at the beginning of the season was that we might be a 4-8/5-7 team, but we would knock off one of the big boys at home. Could be Alabama. Hopefully the excitement hangs around for another week. We really needed Sidney news to come out this week to make up for the lack of a football game.
This week in football: Asides from Bama/LSU, the SEC slate sucks hard. South Carolina and Arkansas play (yawn), but the rest of the slate includes four teams in action against I-AA/FCS teams, the worst Memphis team in 30 years going to Tennessee and Vanderbilt playing at the Swamp.
Not a great weekend to sit at home and watch games.
The national slate isn't much better. Penn State and Ohio State is the only matchup of Top 25 teams outside Bama/LSU, and that's Big 10 football. Who wants to watch that?
I'll probably watch as much C-SPAN this weekend as I watch college football.
Jewel is playing in Vicksburg: Let me take you back to a car ride I had with my wife about a month ago.
Riding on I-55 South in Jackson, I notice a semi-hot blonde on a billboard. It's Jewel, she is playing Vicksburg on November 7.
Wife: Did you see that?
Me: (knowing exactly what she was referring to) See what?
Wife: Jewel is playing at the Ameristar on November 7
Me: Really? That's interesting.
Wife: Do you wanna go?
Me: (being fully aware that is our bye week) We play Alabama that weekend
Wife: Oh, can't miss that game. I hate them
Me: Yep.
An hour or so later, at the house
Watching television on the couch, I hear piano from the office. My wife is playing Jewel
Wife: Hey 615!
Me: Yeah?
Wife: November 7 is our off week, we can go to see Jewel?
Me: (Oh ****) Huh?
Wife: We play Alabama the 14th, Jewel is in Vicksburg on the 7th. We can go.
Me: Do you really want to pay for tickets and drive to Vicksburg to see Jewel?
Wife: Yeah it will be fun.Tickets are only $25.
Me: Do you have any friends that would want to go?
Wife: I want you to go. It could be a date night.
Me: (running out of excuses). We'll see.
Five minutes later
Wife: I bought our tickets, we're on the fourth row.
Damn.
Because of this being our off week, I have to go listen to Jewel yodel and possibly be the only 30-something year old male at this gathering of lesbians and 30-something year old females.
