DuBose Resigns as Head Football Coach at Millsaps College

JACKSON - After leading the Majors to four consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships and two NCAA Division III playoff appearances, head football coach Mike DuBose has announced his resignation from Millsaps College to take an assistant position at the University of Memphis.

"Coach Dubose brought outstanding organization to our program and built character in the scholar-athletes under his charge," said Tim Wise, athletic director. "And although we are grateful for the winning records and conference championships, we are equally appreciative of the lessons of discipline and integrity that he modeled for our scholar athletes. Mike always supported our athletes in their education and was able to create championship teams while instilling the important virtues that are hallmarks of the Millsaps education."
Millsaps hired DuBose in 2005 to fill the vacancy at the defensive coordinator position alongside head coach David Saunders, whom he succeeded a year later as the Majors' 19th head coach in the program's 85-year history.
The Majors went from 2-7 to 7-4 in his first season in 2006, won their first outright league title in 15 years and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs in 31 years. The Majors went on to post consecutive winning seasons at 8-2 in 2007, a school-record 11-1 finish and No. 3 ranking in 2008 and 7-3 mark last season.

DuBose finished with a 33-10 record (24-2 conference record) during his four-year tenure with Millsaps, building what was a struggling team with two winning seasons the previous 12 years into a four-time conference champion in as many seasons. His .767 win percentage is first all-time at Millsaps, while his 33 wins are second behind legendary head football coach Harper Davis, who went 140-78-4 in 25 seasons with the Purple & White.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed the five years I've been here, one as an assistant coach and four as head coach, and the opportunity to work with so many fine young men, " DuBose said. "It's been an outstanding experience for myself and my family, and we've loved every bit of it. There will always be a part of me with Millsaps."

"We are extremely thankful to Mike for the excellent work and service he provided to our football program, and we wish him all the best as he returns to Division I coaching," said Wise. "An extensive search for a head coach will be made to find a replacement who will continue the successes of this program on and off the field."
