Well gents, as we all hoped, the Dawgs have pulled off the 7-0 run to start the season. If you're still bitching, die in a fire. The rest of us will be talking **** to Bammers all week.
1. I was completely wrong about MTSU playing us close, and I couldn't be happier. I don't care if it was a 7-point game at the half, we completely dominated them start to finish.
2. Our OL was on fire. Huge props for the big uglies up front. I was noticing early on that is seemed like Perk was barely getting past the OL, and it was almost always a 4 yard gain. We pushed MTSU around and wore them down. It was nice to see us go back to physical, run-first football. OL also gave TR tons of time to stand back there and throw.
3. Perk is an absolute beast. Anyone still doubting his ability to be an every down back won't ever be convinced. Had a buddy send me a text during the game that Perk leads the SEC in All-Purpose YPG. That's damn strong, to steal a line from The Hat. His big run early in the 3rd broke things open and showed some nice breakaway speed. We didn't use him in the pass game much, but we didn't need to. He'll be used more in that role when we play Bama Saturday.
4. Chris Smith - Game of his career. He made a bunch of big plays and finally found the land of milk and honey, not once, but twice.
5. Brandon Heavens sighting. Hell of a catch on the deep pass.
6. TR was on all night. 17-21, 191, 3 TD. And one of the 4 incompletions was a drop by Bump.
7. RoJo!!!! He made 2 insane grabs. I've been saying all year he's been vastly underutilized, and he showed it last night. He's a big, physical guy with speed. Matchup nightmare. We're going to need him to step up next weekend.
8. We executed bend-but-don't-break on D perfectly for a change. I also liked that we went with more of a hybrid SEC/OOC gameplan and brought some heat.
9. Cam Lawrence is ridiculous. Sack, strip, recovery all by himself. Continues to get us into the right position. Someone in the NFL is going to love him.
10. Congrats to Banks on tying the school INT record! You could've heard a pin drop inside DWS when he was on the ground. And one of the biggest cheers is when he got up and walked off on his own. Hopefully it's just a bruise situation. Without him, this crucial 5-game stretch looks very different. BTW, Mullen was PISSED no late hit was called on the play. After JB got up, Mullen walked over to the ref, got in his face, and pointed right at him while yelling. Terrible missed call.
11. I'm really liking Bernardrick McKinney. The kid can ball.
12. Loved seeing my boy Kendrick Market get the pick to keep MTSU out of the endzone at the end. TD Nazi say "No TD for you!"
13. I'm absolutely loving the evolution of the Dak Attack. At first, it started out as a 1-read option, but everyone knew barring something unexpected, Dak was keeping it. Last week, we add the QB dive-action pass. This week, we saw the addition of the Triple Option to the package. I really love what it brings to our team in the redzone. And I'm damn excited to see what Dak can do in 2014. We'll finally have the entire arsenal available with 1 QB for the first time in Mullen's tenure.
14. Our DL has to step it up. But I really expect to see the intensity turned way up next Saturday. If you can't get up for that game as a player, you shouldn't be playing football.
15. We can beat Bama. We're going to have to play perfect to do it, but it can be done. They aren't as good as they've been the last 2-3 seasons. But I give them and the refs the edge in T-Town. Should be one hell of a crazy atmosphere.
As always, comment, add, argue, flame, whatever.
Enjoy this week, gents. 7-0 doesn't happen often. Let's give the Bammers hell.
