My response was to a poster who said "in a world with NO NIL." - as in no one is given anything.

Yes. But there is no world with "no NIL".
We had that and players were still getting $$$ under the table.

So even if there was no NIL - it's likely Duke or other elite schools are still offering significant money.
Rutgers would likely be offering $0. (perhaps that's naive and we would be "dirty" too but don't know).

It completely mystifies me how things are being reporting completely opposite on here and TOS.

Trust me, as a Rutgers fan, I want this account of the facts/recruiting to be true...but not going to lie that I am a bit nervous.

One site wants basketball to fail for football to be good, the other wants all sports to be good.

I'll let you decide which is which.

Not sure how that moves the program forward. Quite frankly I don’t know how you move a program forward.

I think the game is now fill the bandwagon. The bigger your bandwagon the higher your salary cap is.

I suppose if Ace and Dylan fill the bandwagon…..but what if it doesn’t translate in to wins and they are gone next year. Does that empty the bandwagon.

To be honest I don’t know what to think at this point. If I were Pike I’d dream that a NBA job would open.
Don’t forget Sommerville. And do you see how hard this staff recruits? You are underestimating them at the same time that this staff is recruiting lots of talented players, as well as talented DEFENSIVE players (ie Bryce Dortch, 6’7” 4 star from Massachusetts, who is about to visit Rutgers for the SECOND time).

I wouldn’t underestimate this staff’s ability to keep recruiting impressive players.

Dortch sounds like McConnel 2.0

More like doom and gloom on NIL, which is warranted since we just lost multiple players because of it.
But herein lies the rub...unless you believe we are going to have the biggest recruiting implosion/catastrophe in the history of sports, we are about to sign a top 3 class...

You think that happens without NIL?

Somethings not lining up over there

"NIL is the devil! Rutgers will never be able to compete. It'll just be the richer getting richer."

"Rutgers uses NIL to land recruits they previously would have no chance at. Have a commitment from the top player in 2024 and potentially about to land another top 5 commitment. Without NIL we are likely not even at the table."

Well, we have to actually sign these players. See Ndongo.

Just don’t want to be saquoned here
I don't really see the Saquon comp. Harper definitely zoomed up the rankings but it's not like he committed to us back when he was 50+ and then he got reranked and received all this new attention. Plus as mentioned his home state team wasn't us - it was PSU and Franklin can really recruit. Maybe it is closer to when Waters was recruiting Jaokim Noah - but Dylan (and Saquon) was way higher regarded initially. Noah went from unknown to MVP of a camp to Florida level recruit.

Well
Then stop saying we have lost multiple people due to NIL when the reality is we lost one person
Ndongo and Spencer.

I don’t care what anyone says, I’m not buying NIL had nothing to do with Warren’s decommitment.

Almost lost Mag because he was paid $0 last year.

We also were not even in the conversation with potential recruits like Mgbako.

So yeah, it’s a concern. If we end up signing Ace, Somerville, Harper….different story and tells me we have enough NIL to make selective NIL deals.

Like my father used to say, you can have anything you want, you just can’t have everything you want. We are not going to outbid every team that comes to poach a kid. If someone wants to give Ndongo a ridiculous bag sometimes you have to walk away.

If someone expected us to be outbidding the entire basketball world for Mbako, that’s on you. The fact that we have Ace committed and are likely in the lead for DH tells you all you need to know. Basketball has money. Doesn’t mean we have limitless funds. We have to be strategic, like just about everyone else.

Why are some of you fans? Every post is a "sky is falling" post. If you're miserable, be miserable by yourself. Don't drag others into the sewer with you.

Or at least take months like May and June off where the only thing happening is recruiting. The “wake me in _____” guys who are still on the boards in May are hysterical.

Ndongo was tied to Karl Hobbs and Spencer is not worth paying money to, when we have existing long time Scarlet Knights (Mulcahy and Cliff and focusing on Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper and Sommerville). Spencer and Ndongo fall behind all 5 of those names based on loyalty to the program or talent level.

Add in the recruiting process for 2024 PF Top 125, Bryce Dortch, who if he commits to RU, would cancels Ndongo going elsewhere. And is much less likely to be a flight risk. This is a high caliber player and another hopeful win for RU hoops.

Anyone complaining about NIL, is ok to do so, but it's very difficult to listen to complaining from 1 collective, as if they're the only game in town. There's clearly a more focused initiative that has built the momentum seen in the last 2 classes. 2023 & 2024).

McConnel wasn’t a top 150 kid out of HS. Turned out to far exceed is rankings. Kid worked his *** off and gave every ounce he had. Some top players could learn work ethic and effort from him.

Your insane logic suggests you're buying what they are selling over there

How do we get top kids to verbal without NIL
