I know what it means, but would've never thought they'd use it as an actual word. It's more of a textual description of a sound.

I had to abandon self-imposed hard mode to try and find some letters - i was out of guesses.

My older co teacher used to use that word all the time. She also used old sayings like "better than sliced bread", ""rats and sassafras", "it's raining cats and dogs", etc. She was a hoot!
