I don't know much about soccer but I would assume the drama surrounding our player has fired the other team up. Probably would have played better without him but I don't know Jack diddly.
I think we just aren’t on the same level.
We just aren't very good at soccer and probably never will be (certainly elite). Our best players play other sports. It is that simple.
Every four years the country gets into it for a few weeks, and every year we get disappointed and soccer goes back to being the 5th or 6th most popular sport in the U.S. (football, basketball, baseball, golf, NASCAR).

I mean we may come back miracle win but I doubt we win the cup. England, Mexico, Argentina, Germany would hammer us tbh.

No, I’m not saying this is what happened, but the US looked like they were throwing the game. Just utterly embarrassing.
The 52nd minute mark is why I rarely watch soccer. A lof of what is a foul and isn't a foul is stupid af. Also, a lot of times whomever has the better players acting like they got shot in the leg writhing with agony get the benefit of the call too much.
That was hilarious. He sounded immediately desperate knowing they just lost almost all American viewership.
This is what it looks like when men's soccer is your nation's fourth most popular sport among youths, and also competes with track during high school track season for elite athletes. Until that changes, expect much of the same.
Well, our brief delusion that we were finally ready to take on the Euro soccer powers got shattered in an ugly way tonight.

Got into it bc of country pride, but just cannot get into this sport as a whole.
Hockey and baseball score way more and those are our "slower" or less offensive team sports
Flopping is out out of control...would it be so hard to say if you fall down like that you have to sit 10 mins...that way youre either actually hurt or you won't do it

Well, back to 99% of us not caring for 4 years.
Not sure why anyone thinks the US will ever compete with the big boys when our best players play other sports.

That episode does make this butt-kicking look even worse. At least we’d have a built in excuse for it if Balogun hadn’t played. And we would’ve been viewed as the plucky underdog trying to fight against adversity.
But instead the world is now laughing that we still got smoked even after our President intervened. Bringing politics into it changed the game’s whole vibe. Bad juju.
