should tremendously help us in recruiting? I know that he himself will not be recruiting, but he can help the new coach make an easy transition into the "way things are done" to get the big recruits in.

You mods feel free to delete this if I shouldn't go there.

as the chief recruiter in the program if we could just have him in that role.

As long as he is not coaching players or instructing them or making decisions that deal with strength and conditioning.

He could be a valuable asset to the new coach in the form of a mentor on the intangible things that Stansbury did well. Hopefully, the new guy will realize the value there and use it. Of course, that's all on him. I doubt Stans is going to make it a point to mentor the guy if he doesn't ask for it and the new guy may have an ego too large to go that route. Of course, Mullen has an ego the size of Texas and he has no problem picking the Kang's brain...

unless they just became a State basketball fan in the last 4 or 5 years. Rick is a major part of MSU basketball history. He didn't throw a shitfit when he resigned(ala Polk). Keep the man around.

..you really expect him to "stay close to the program?"

He's got a boatload of disposable income, an energetic wife & several young boys who probably want to experience life outside Starkville, Mississippi.

It amazes me how some of you think.

If so, it amazes me that you can make such idiotic statements.

Having the immediate former coach hanging around the program will not sit well with any incoming coach unless of course we hire a Stans protege' and maybe not even then. Even that has some risks because you know the old saying about too many cooks!

I think the best thing is for Rick to have nothing to do with the mens BB program for at least a year or two & then get involved if and only if the current coach wants him to and then in a purely non-coaching role.

However, he's an extremely competitive person, and if another school comes knocking in a few years, don't be surprised if he answers.

..he said at the press conference whatever it took it end this quietly.

Now Stansbury is a rich man with his whole life ahead of him.

What would you do? Stay "close to the program?" Or start living?

The man said he wanted to continue to do everything he could to help the basketball program move forward. He also said he was looking forward to raising his boys in Starkville. At no time during that press conference did he say anything about traveling the world and spending his millions. Hell, the man said his favorite hobby is to FISH and that he wanted to fish more with his boys. His back door is 20' from Browning Creek lake. Geez.

Right now they'll probably come up with some kind of "make work" job like Felker has. Or just retire Felker (finally) and give his salary to Rick to suck that tit for awhile.

maybe "living" as you put it is not a priority to him. I have never heard it said of a man in his 50's that he has his "whole" life ahead of him....you sir are an idiot.
