No- he plays as much zone

If not more than Chris. Chizek's 2004 Auburn team was a Tampa-2 defense.

We need to do what we did when we hired Manny- try to find the next big thing before he becomes the next big thing. And we need someone that's creative that is going to bring pressure more than 5% of the time.

What we did with Manny was have 7 NFL players on defense

Manny ain't exactly lighting it on fire in Austin

It's not like none of our guys are going to the NFL

Banks, Slay, McKinney, Skinner, Denico, Boyd, and we would have seven if dip **** Chris would start Quay over his boy Cherrington. And the guys not going to the NFL are upperclassmen.

What Manny does at Texas is irrelevant. What he did at MSU is relevant to us. And that was a lot better than what we are seeing from Chris Wilson.

I agree. He had a good year at State, but I don't think Manny is the answer because he has the talent at Texas to be a top 10 defense. Manny's got two potential 1st rounders in S Kenny Vacarro and DE Alex Okafor along with a potential 2nd rounder in CB Carrington Byndom this year.

I'm not saying bring Manny back

I'm saying we need to find the next up and comer in football, and that's exactly what we did when we brought in Manny. You want someone that is hungry that wants to prove themselves.

Mississippi Southern can't fire him...they're having trouble paying the light bill, much less paying him off and hiring someone else.

Last night our offense sucked just as bad if not worst than the defense. Who are you firing there, Todd? In fact, with the exception of a couple of plays, the defense played good the first half. But the offense soiled their pants. In most games this leads to ****** defense. For the 100th time, no seasoned DC worth a **** will coach where he's micro-managed, especially by a guy who's never coach defense.

No...I would replace Chris Wilson with John Chavis. Just because UT sucked on defense does not mean the guy can coach a defense. See LSU for reference. I know, I know. LSU always has 4 and 5 star defensive players. But the guy has had success, is available and we need a change there.

Chavis at LSU, you moron.

But hey, I'm sure he'd love to leave LSU and come coach in Starkville.

*Chavis IS at LSU. I guess I'm a moron as well.

So, Dan is telling his DC to have a 20 yard hole in the middle of his defense? That IS bad micro-mangement.

More than anything, I think we need to add to our offense- add more screens, slants, and use our personnel a little bit better such as Nick Griffin as tandem with Perkins and then throw to Perkins more.

I do agree that offense/defense play off of each other- and because of that I could turn it around on you and say that it's hard for an offense to get into rhythm when the defense is bending and breaking all the time and not getting off the field and getting field position by stopping the other team with short drives or turnovers.

I wouldn't mind seeing a pro-style guy come in for Les. I think someone like Scott Loeffler and Dan might work well together. Might be a disaster, but I'm willing to see if it works out for the best.

Like I said- we'll know more about where Dan and our program stands in about a month. If he fires Chris- that's a good sign. Maybe Dan micromanaged him because Chris sucks donkey balls. We'll have to wait until next year to see if relentless effort comes back.

Brick's resume >>>>> Wilson's resume. I have no clue if that means he'd be a good DC either, but I'd sure as hell give him the chance. And I'd love to see what he could do with PJ Jones, Virges, Quay, James, Autry, and Eulls. Plus, rumor a couple of years or so ago was that he'd love to come back to Starkville. He should get an interview at the very least.

Dan hired him and its his choice to fire him. It's a lot easier to fire a guy that creates a bad plan than it is to fire one that executes your bad plan. But I'm confused. I thought that 8-4 was great for MSU, four straight bowl games, 3-4 against the Rebs, winning the State in recruiting, new football facility, stadium expansion, sell outs.... What's the problem? Why change things? Could it be that you thought Mullen was serious about that National Championship stuff.

Don't know what Wilson is making but Brick is making almost $500,000 as DL coach for LSU. He was the DC at Baylor 99-01. Doesn't really mean **** but Baylor was 6-27 from 99-01.

To clear things up, he's getting paid $160k a month regardless. If he gets a job, Auburn will pay Chizik $160k - what he makes a month at his new job. If Chizik wanted to become the head coach of USM or some other bottom feeder then Auburn would essentially be paying him $4 m a year to coach a different school.

the conference will be changing from a defensive orientation to an offensive orientation with the addition of Johnny Football and the big 12-ers. I think we need to bring back Hal Mumme to the SEC as OC, and while we're at it, bring back Joe Lee for DC. They can't be making that much at Mcmurray

Look I think I'm pretty defensive minded. And I know more about what I'm seeing than most as it's what I do. I'm not saying to fire or NOT to fire Coach Wilson. But to say he isn't "hungry" is somewhat absurd. I happen to know the guy and have been to his clinics the last few yrs. He and Manny run the same damned defense. Almost EXACTLY! What the 17 is your love fest over Manny? He benefited by having NFL LBs while he was here. And btw, his wife hated Starkville. He ain't coming back! And he is doing less with more talent in Texas. Look I get it, Cdub had a BAD scheme at some points this yr. But our defense played that 1st half as well as any who've faced UM. We forced 3 TOs and 2 shanked punts. Where the 17 was the offense? Tyler played scared after that late hit from CJ and never returned after. To boot the offensive play calling was TERRIBLE. Coach Mullen created a wedge that only players know about inside that locker room. The defense was pissed that after doing all they had done there were no pts scored. Very Croomesqe if you ask me. Our 2 offense TDs came off of a bang-bang play on a busted coverage and a garbage time TD by Dak.

And while we're at it (laying blame). My friend brought this yo my attention. Do you remember the MT game and how fired up Mullen was on everybody on the sideline cursing people, coaches & players. Where the 17 was THAT guy Saturday night? Did he disappear? Fact is Mullen coached scared and the kids emulated his demeanor. That my friends is FACT. He coached scared, he looked it and we got our asses beat plain and simple. He has done GOOD things for our university and this job is now better than it was when he took it. But I know what I know. And he looked overwhelmed Saturday night. And the only kids I saw that didn't wore #'s 1, 10, 7 & 27.
