On the walk back to my car I heard no less than five different fans remark that Lavianos bonehead spike would make ESPN's Not Top 10. Was just waiting for it..

It will also make College GameDay "You have one job" segment next week. I don't have a problem with it making this stuff. Shows the Football crowd that Rutgers was in the game to the end

Yep and it made The Dan LeBatard Show on a segment of funniest things they saw this weekend. They did also mention BC's 4 first down performance in a 0-3 loss though.

Well Rutgers was playing #4 Michigan State in the Big Ten...who the F cares who BC was playing. Do you really have a problem comprehending the difference?

The difference as you describe it does not matter to me. BC committed a desperate, impulsive, yet still stupid spike when they had a chance to score and maybe a better chance to score.

This may have been the first time that happened in CFB or NFL, where TWO teams commit dumb game-ending spikes in the same hour of the same day. They both deserve near equal infamy in the media.

I just dont understand RU fans so upset about it. It wasn't like RU was on the 5 yard line.

I really don't think it was that bad dumb of a play. The team had about 10 seconds to get lined up, realize that it was actually 4th down not 3rd (scoreboard), and then get the play off.

Of course it's going to make the funny moment stuff. In the bigger picture , it was pretty meaningless...the clock was running ...would have been tough to even get the ball snapped and people down toward the goal line in my opinion. Much ado about nothing. MSU completed some really tough pass plays on key downs on that last drive..that's where the game was lost for RU.

If it happened against UCONN nobody would pay attention but it was against a team that is in the mix for the playoffs. I don't understand this boards uproar

Actually with Carroo, we had a reasonable chance!

I assume you're joking.

Laviano would have had to throw a fairly accurate pass of 55-60 yards counting how far he'd drop back.

You'd have to assume the OL would have given him the time to wait for the WR's to get downfield.

2 WR's would have to beat 4 or more DBs for the ball.

I wouldn't call anything about that "reasonable".

The play I envision, if he doesn't spike it, is no one knowing what to do, the offensive line getting gashed, Laviano scrambling, and getting sacked 18 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Nothing about any of the last few seconds game me any confidence that the WRs, linemen, or QB were going to be composed enough to make a good effort at a TD. Clearly there was a better chance of something happening than the spike, but I think we are looking at maybe a 1% shot at a TD there.

But BC's spike with goal to go in the final seconds did not. Hmm....
Because theres was a somewhat ore common mistake - trying to stop the clock but not having enough time to do so. Ours was a once in a lifetime act of stupidity.

I'll say this - the spike got much more negative attention for RU football outside of the RU sphere than all of the combined scandals of the past two months.

Awful post...once in a lifetime act of Stupidity ? Thats just a dumb statement and you obviously never played football.. I would love to see you in that situation, you probably wouldnt even e able to get up after the sack

And on the subject of stupidity, what u said in 2nd paragraph is even stupider... We had lead stories on every 5pm news station in NY for days and u think 6 second football play that made a friday funnies segment gAve more negative attention..

You are just trollin

Didn't the coach take responsibility for this? If so, I really feel badly for Laviano.

The worst play of the weekend came in the UCF-UConn game. A UCF kickoff returner started to come out of the end zone, then changed his mind, retreated back into the end zone, and took a knee for a safety.
