<div>On a serious note...</div>Run plays that put Perkins in space - speed sweeps, screens, etc.<div>Run the true option with Ballard moreconsistently.</div><div>Find ways for Bumphis to touch the ball more - bubble, tunnels, reverses, slants, etc. He's the best YAC guy we have.</div>

I agree with this, but add the middle screen that worked so well with Perkins last year. We catch them in a blitz and it's off to the races.

And let Ballard follow them through the hole.<div>
</div><div>Make sure Ballard gets 20 carries minimum.</div><div>
</div><div>Drop the read option dive.</div><div>
</div><div>Involve Perkins more on inside screens and outside sweeps.</div><div>
</div><div>Run a few crazy gadget plays with Bumphis or Lewis to capitalize on their speed.</div><div>
</div><div>Don't be afraid to pull Relf if he's throwing into triple coverage again.</div>

Against GA when we brought bump across the formation or did a fake dive/rollout or anything to make the defense pay attention to more than one guys, we generally had a successful play.

When we did a direct handoff or or Relf kept it just up the middle off we were unsuccessful.

Agree with others to run screens, especially to Clausell's side. He's not blocking the guy half the time anyway so might as well give the DE something to think about and maybe it slows his pass rush down some.

Need to give Blaine some help with a TE more even if it means less guys in the pattern. Better than Relf getting sacked.

With UAB I'd come out and establish the spread option early and often and show teams that we want to attack the edges, that should open up the inside more.

we're so predictable now. our running game looks like crooms but in the shotgun.<div>run the wildcat. lewis, bumphis, perkins and ballard. combine any 2 of those guys and it is a success. last week i had just gotten wildcat with lewis out of my mouth when dan did it. FOR ONE PLAY. really, one play?</div><div>use fb's more on inside running.</div><div>get the ball to bump 10 times a game, ballard 20</div><div>run the option and sweeps from motion. it's that simple.</div>

Run the speed option against slower defenses a good bit more.
Run the amazing HB counter that we ran for 2 years that nobody but Alabama and LSU stopped.
Run the jet sweep a few times accompanied by a HB counter out of that formation.
Get Relf out of the pocket on passing plays, or move the pocket so that he can rollout and make people respect his running if nothing is open.
Perkins with the slip screen a couple of times.
Ballard on the wheel route.
Pass the ball while in the redzone from time to time and not only on 3rd and 12.

add more Veer to go with the speed option and zone read<div>add a couple of option passes</div><div>roll right and throw the backside post-corner to Carr</div><div>play Perkins more</div><div>
</div><div>Have Russell a package of hurry-up 2 minute offense- and thats all he does- so that he knows it inside and out- 3 runs, 6 passes- run at Oregon pace and used 2-3 times a ballgame as a change of pace

I like what coach suggests there - we lose the benefit of our hurry up b/c we look to the sidelines all the time. Give him 9-10 plays in a hurry up offense and trot it out there 2-3 times a game and see how the defense reacts.

Whether it is screens or jet sweeps, or whatever. Mix things up a little bit.

Move Carmon to left tackle and see if that helps Relf, and if Relf still can't get it together after that, then play Tyler.

This assumes the line can hold their blocks and Relf can make an accurate throw downfield.

we have to find a way to have Ballard touch it 15 times, Bumphis, Perkins, and Lewis all guaranteed 5 touches. Put the ball in the hands of playmakers. If we can't throw it to them hand it to them, pitch it to them, direct snap it, something.

On the playcalling side I dont understand why we dont run more bubblescreens to speedsters (think Freddie Milons), and if our tackles are struggling we have to be smart and give them some help with lining a TE up there and at least chipping the DE before running a short route. We are in the SEC with the best DE's in the nation, a Redshirt Freshman needs some help. And me personally I would take almost all of Relf's reads away because he keeps it WAY too much IMO

Start running the option again.

Get Jameon Lewis involved in the game plan.

Run more sweeps.

Set up the little Perkins screen that worked almost every time we ran it last year.

Sweeps, traps, options, whatever. If we have a failing offensive live, we need to take the action out away from the weakest part of the offense.

And please burn that lateral pass to Bumphis out of the playbook. It is much better to try to find him on screens, crossing routes, or downfield.

*Screens to Perkins, Ballard or Lewis to take advantage of our ****** pass blocking.
*Bubble screens to Bumphis and Lewis.
*Option pitches to Ballard, less of Relf keeping it for short yardage.
*Quick slants.
*True hurry up offense; we may hurry to the line but we take a long damn time once we get there and it loses it's effectiveness.
*The occasional deep pass to keep the safeties honest.
*I'd like to see our QB read a blitz and hit the open receiver.

All in all, we're running Relf too often for too little. Not getting Ballard nearly enough touches.
Relf 80 carries, 144 yards, 1.8 ypc, 0 TD
Ballard 66 carries, 419 yards, 6.3 ypc, 5 TD

There's no reason half of Relf's carries couldn't be going to Ballard or Perkins. Or even Elliot, who has looked decent on his few carries, averaging 4.4 ypc. The Relf keepers clearly aren't working and someone needs to be in his ear telling him to either run harder or make the pitch.

Relf isn't a pocket passer. I honestly think he struggles reading defensive schemes (that's why we run so much option). Relf hasn't hit a deep pass or quick pass, outside swing passes, consistently yet. All it takes is for him to under or over throw one quick slant and it's a pick 6. <div>
</div><div>Also, another thing to note about screens (excluding bubbles and slips), teams haven't blitzed that much against us. They haven't had to because their front 4 is effective enough. Jailbreak screens over the middle do not work if you can't catch a defense aggressively pursuing a particular area (run blitzing, stunting, blitzing linebackers, etc.). Until we give a reason for a team to get after our qb, screens over the middle are out of the question. </div><div>
</div><div>I would do what a lot you have said and incorporate more sweeps and veer into or repetoir. Until we can show we can block up front, that's about all we can effectively run. We have GOT to block better up front, and until that happens, very little will be consistently effective against defenses. But like many of you have said, we have got to steer away from the dive option. It just isn't working.</div>

Then have Ralph imitate the Vulcan in Birmingham**. I mean, isn't that how we won 9 games last year? Why would you change up what worked last year?

I don't care who is playing O Line for us this year, Ralph is not a pocket passer and never will be. Hell, even Mini-Brett had more presence in the pocket and moved around, avoiding pressure, better than Ralph has ever even dreamed of. The way we win with Ralph, Ballard, and Perk is option, veer, misdirection, end arounds, roll out passes with option to run, etc. Keep the pocket/play moving, which also keeps the defense moving, and tires them down.
