| G.H.W. Bush (4 yrs) | ~$172k |
| Clinton (8 yrs) | ~$364k |

What would a $100,000 401(k) have become under President Biden's last two years?Ahh 401ks. Look at the dropoff from Clinton to GW Bush, From Obama to Trump. My 401k took a pounding during the W Bush years but it came roaring back after that.
How do you think Trump's second term is going, regarding market returns? On track with his first term?
What would a $100,000 401(k) have become under each President since Reagan?
Using annualized returns over each full term:
President $100k Invested at Start of Term Reagan (8 yrs) ~$335k G.H.W. Bush (4 yrs) ~$172k Clinton (8 yrs) ~$364k G.W. Bush (8 yrs) ~$69k Obama (8 yrs) ~$335k Trump (4 yrs) ~$184k Biden (4 yrs) ~$165k
Why would I thank Trump? I worked for the money and I invested it.Thank you President Trump!!
Compared to the returns under Biden's last two years that I posted above, the returns under Trump stink.Everyone is probably pretty pleased, as I am, but imagine where the market would be without tariffs and Iran War. The market is moving in spite of Trump, not because of him.
Mine too - 2% return over the last three months. I would have been better off putting it in a high interest savings account. My 401K has been kind of flat lined for awhile now. Should I thank Trump for that?
For the record my post was from February. However, mine has been soaring lately. I work for an investment company. Change investment firms. My 401K has been kind of flat lined for awhile now. Should I thank Trump for that?
I have an 80% return since 2020 but it's been going downhill during Trump's second term so it's not a firm/broker's fault. We were doing much better under Biden's last two years and that economy was gifted to Trump on a silver platter only for him to blow it up with stupid a.ss trade wars and a real war of choice.Mine has been soaring. Change investment firms.
Of course, it was doing better under Biden. Wasn't everything.I have an 80% return since 2020 but it's been going downhill during Trump's second term so it's not a firm/broker's fault. Yes, absolutely, without a doubt. We're in a historic clownstorm under this clueless orange baboon.Of course, it was doing better under Biden. Wasn't everything.![]()

I assume because what you said was funny. For the record my post was from February. However, mine has been soaring lately. I work for an investment company. Change investment firms.
Why are you laughing dpic?
There are different types of 401k’s and some of them are portable. SEP’s for exampleI assume because what you said was funny.
For one "soaring" is not reality. You work for an investment firm and know the market is currently wobbly.
Second, since you work for an investment firm, you know 401ks are not portable, right?
Say dpic works for FedEx, he is not able to just "change investment firms" because the firm he is forced to use is dictated by FedEx, not him.
I am not sure why I am telling you things you clearly know, because, again, you work for an investment firm. And I believe you.
Woot, just realized a made a stupid mistake haha. I had my brokerage account open when I answered the question and not my 401kI assume because what you said was funny.

Yes, I am sure he was referencing specialized plans. Because, again, he works for an investment firm. There are different types of 401k’s and some of them are portable. SEP’s for example
And who was President over the last year presiding over this solid return?Woot, just realized a made a stupid mistake haha. I had my brokerage account open when I answered the question and not my 401k.
I've had a 14% return on my 401k in the last year. My bad!
I have limited choices in my 401k so that's not reflective of the returns I would have seen in my brokerage account if things had stayed as stable as they were the last two years under Biden. I was knocking it out of the park in 2023-2024 and I've been basically treading water since last October, and if it does reach a high, it's immediately erased by some new dumba.ss decision by the Clown in the White House. But sure, he and this ineffective Congress will make it soar any day now - two weeks probably. And who was President over the last year presiding over this solid return?
Don’t stress Dickpic….we’ll have Republicans running the show for the foreseeable future, so things will keep humming along nicely.
I'm mostly invested into index funds, meaning the whole market. For the record my post was from February. However, mine has been soaring lately. I work for an investment company. Change investment firms.
Why are you laughing dpic?
Your plan allows or you have a specialized 401k? Or are over 59.5yo?I roll my 401K into my IRA once a year. Much better plan.
Love the sarcasm. And who was President over the last year presiding over this solid return?

Good god you are a flip flopping idiot on who and when to blame. Grow the ******* Jo .Why would I thank Trump? I worked for the money and I invested it.
Are you wanting to thank Trump for the inflation caused by tariffs and Trump's dumbass war? Get ready for a lot more pressure as he ramps up his deportation of the people who staff our care centers and scrub hospital floors. Are your 401k gains outpacing the rise in your cost of living, especially what you pay for health care?
As long as I show proof that I'm rolling it into another account it's good to go.Your plan allows or you have a specialized 401k? Or are over 59.5yo?
Many 401ks don't allow this, maybe that is changing?
well, 14% is not all bad.Woot, just realized a made a stupid mistake haha. I had my brokerage account open when I answered the question and not my 401k.

This was one of the worst Julys for the market in a long time.well, 14% is not all bad.
I don't know why you guys get all worked up over gains from one month or even one year. Investing is a long term gain. Like most of you, I'd think my portfolio, which is conservative by most standards, has been down or up by over $500 k in just the last year. It was similar during Biden, trump 1 and Obama.
Going out on the limb when the market is up or down for a day or month isn't productive. Just for example, August is a HISTORICALLY a below average month for stocks..no matter who is presdient
This was one of the worst Julys for the market in a long time.
This market is primed at the pump for the 2nd half the year.

What is the S&P return in the last year?
The S&P 500 trailing 1-year return is approximately 18.19% (as tracked via major index instruments like the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)) up to July 2026, while the total return for the previous full calendar year (2025) was 17.88%. [1, 2]
Performance Breakdown

Performance Breakdown
Should be measured from Nov 2024 not 2025. The gains from Nov 2024 to Jan 2025 were due to Trump winning election, not due to Biden admin policies. It’s cherry picking to just use Biden’s last two years. He inherited a market that climbed from 2500 to 3800+ in the 3 quarters leading up to his inauguration. The market was then basically flat for two entire years. It was a horrible stretch of returns.
S&P is up from ~5800 to 7500 since Jan 2025, or about 29%.
