Alabama is the top overall seed in the College Football Playoff and is about to play in the National Championship against Georgia. Despite the longstanding success of Alabama, the Crimson Tide have undoubtedly been tested throughout the season. Experience in close games has proven to be valuable to Alabama entering the championship game, according to running back Brian Robinson Jr.

Alabama’s first close battle came in Week 3 against Florida (who was ranked No. 3 at the time). Florida fought until the end, but Alabama came away with a 31-29 victory. Alabama lost in the middle of the year to Texas A&M, falling 41-38 and giving the team a glimpse into what it feels like to be on the wrong end of a close game. Later in the year, Alabama won three of its last four regular season games (20-14 vs. LSU, 42-35 vs. Arkansas, 24-22 vs. Auburn) by a single score or less. Robinson believes that experience has helped Alabama ahead of the National Championship.

“I think some of those close calls we had during the season just helped us just play to the final second of the game,” Robinson said. “And we had to battle with a team all the way to the end of the game. And with those experiences just going into other games, we have experienced just playing to the last second, so we know what we’re comfortable with coming from behind or playing from behind, seven to 10 points. And also just playing a full game and getting the team’s best out of them for 60 minutes.”

Robinson knows Alabama must play a full game in the National Championship

If Alabama is going to win against Georgia in the title game, it is going to take a great effort for a full four quarters. As Robinson and Alabama enter the National Championship against Georgia, the team knows what it must do to come out on top.

Robinson, who just ran for 204 yards in the Cotton Bowl against Cincinnati, is looking to carry his momentum into the most important game of the season.

“That’s kind of helped us going into bigger games and kind of expect teams to play us for a whole 60 minutes,” Robinson added. “And we just had to prepare to have to play full games and we’ll get every team’s best for the full game.”
