There are plenty of areas in DJ Uiagalelei’s game that you can nitpick apart. However, one layer he has brought to the Clemson offense is his ability to run the ball. His legs have added a new variety to the Tiger offense. Uiagalelei says he has witnessed firsthand how it improves the unit overall.

Uiagalelei discussed his rushing skillset during media on Monday. He says it really makes the Clemson offense go as it helps each position group in the offense.

“It makes our offense a lot more versatile. I feel like in our offense, for it to be successful, the quarterback has gotta run. My biggest thing is whenever I do need to run the ball, I want to be able to run it well. I want to be able to get as many yards as I can. Be elusive and be able to be a threat on the ground for the defense,” said Uiagalelei. “It takes a big load off the running backs and makes it a lot easier for them to run the ball. It makes the holes a little bit wider. I feel like it makes it easier on the offensive line and the passing game as well.”

Uiagalelei has rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 27 attempts during Clemson’s three games. While it’s not elite, it’s something that keeps defenses on their toes when defending him. It’s something Uiagalelei wants to continue to work on in his game now and moving forward. With a more well-rounded dual-threat ability, he thinks it’ll make him more comfortable as a QB and help him become a better overall prospect.

“I think the more I run, I feel like the more comfortable I get. I feel like each and every game I’ll get more comfortable. Practicing (will do that) as well,” Uiagalelei said. “Just continuing to get better from that running standpoint. Watch film and try to get faster.”

DJ Uiagalelei is finding any way that he can separate himself as the Clemson starter as well as improve himself as a player. As he continues to work on his arm’s efficiency, rushing is something he can do to impact the offense right now. With both continuing to grow, they’ll combine to help Uiagalelei become the quarterback everyone wants him to be for Clemson and moving forward.
