Duke commit Tyrese Proctor reclassifies up to 2022

Duke commit Tyrese Proctor, a 6-foot-4 point guard out of Canberra (AUS) NBA Global Academy, has announced he will reclassify up to the class of 2022, joining the Blue Devils this upcoming season.
“The moment I stepped foot inside Cameron I knew it was where I belonged,” said Proctor via Instagram. “I’m ready to step up and face a new challenge where I maximize my development as a player and continue to grow on and off the court. Waiting a year to put on that Duke jersey was too long. After weighing my options with my family and coaches, I’m excited to announce I will be reclassifying up to the class of 2022. It will be an honor to join Coach Scheyer’s first team and represent one of the best universities in the world on the basketball court. I can’t wait to get to work at Duke!”
The decision for Proctor to head to Durham a year early comes less than 24 hours after freshman guard Trevor Keels announced he would not return to Duke for his sophomore year and instead remain in the 2022 NBA draft.
Proctor, an international prospect and Australian native, is ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus. His ranking will now be re-evauluated after joining the class of 2022.

Although the original plan for Proctor was not to reclassify, it still doesn’t come as much of a shock. As mentioned previously, Keels will not return, but interestingly enough, Proctor was already done with school. That’s right; Proctor graduated over six months ago, in December. The original plan was to take this year to focus entirely on training, but with Duke in need of another skilled guard in Durham next season, it’s a no-brainer.
Proctor will be Duke’s seventh incoming freshman and will join five-star C Dereck Lively, five-star PF Kyle Filipowski, five-star SF Dariq Whitehead, four-star SF Mark Mitchell, four-star SG Jaden Schutt, and three-star C Christian Reeves.
