Florida DB Dijon Johnson arrested on multiple charges

Florida defensive back Dijon Johnson was arrested May 2 on multiple charges, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He was later released on a surety bond, documents show.
Johnson was charged possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and possession of a controlled substance – a Class 2 and Class 3 felony, respectively. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of cannabis less than 20 grams and resisting an officer without violence.
Johnson was arrested at 11:20 p.m. May 2 and booked at 1:31 a.m. May 3. He was then released May 4 on a surety bond.
Florida acknowledged the situation in a statement. The school said it would continue to keep tabs on the legal process that will follow.
“We are aware of the situation of Dijon Johnson,” the university said. “We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes.”
Johnson is preparing for his third season at Florida and is coming off the most productive season of his career in 2024. He totaled 27 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and two passes defended as a sophomore.

During the offseason, Johnson underwent shoulder surgery and was limited during spring practice as a result. However, he still could be in line for the starting cornerback job at Florida as he battles against Cormani McClain.
Florida is looking to build off an impressive run to end to the 2023 season, finishing the year with an 8-5 record after starting out 3-3. The Gators rattled off four straight victories to close things out, including upsets over LSU and Ole Miss in The Swamp before a dominant win over rival Florida State to close out the regular season. They then cruised past Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl and will try to maintain that momentum into 2025.
Quarterback DJ Lagway will be a key part of that plan after dealing with an injury during spring practice. After assuming the starting job last season following Graham Mertz’s season-ending injury, Lagway totaled 1,915 passing yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 101 rushing yards over 12 games.
Lagway’s father recently provided an update on his son while speaking with On3’s Gators Online. The former Five Star Plus+ recruit will also have a new target for his sophomore season after Florida brought in UCLA transfer J.Michael Sturdivant – the No. 23-ranked wide receiver in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
