Carson Beck injury: Georgia QB goes down after taking hit before halftime of SEC Championship

Just before halftime of Saturday’s SEC Championship against Texas, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck went down holding his arm. He got up and walked off the field, and Kirby Smart said the staff would take a look at him in the locker room during the break.
Beck went to make one final throw before the break, but got hit as he threw. As the Longhorns and Bulldogs scrambled for the ball behind him, Beck stayed on the ground, holding his right arm.
Smart said the staff would evaluate things in the halftime locker room. But he expressed optimism his quarterback would be able to give it a go out of the break.
“He should be,” Smart said when asked by ABC’s Holly Rowe if Beck would be able to play in the second half. “I don’t know. We’ve got to go look at him.”
Smart had a conversation with Beck on the field before heading toward the locker room for halftime. He said Beck walked him through the play, but Smart said he had to throw the ball away rather than try to make something happen with the pass rush coming at him.

“He just said his hand got hit as he was throwing it there,” Smart said. “The guy came all the way around the edge, which people do in that situation. He’s got to be aware of it and just get rid of the ball.”
Through the first half, Beck had an up-and-down showing as Georgia struggled against Texas’ defense. He completed 7 of 13 passes for 54 yards as the Bulldogs failed to reach the end zone.
Entering Saturday’s game, Beck threw for 3,429 yards and 28 touchdowns during the regular season. However, he also threw 12 interceptions – nine of which came between Weeks 6-9. He bounced back well to end the year, though, and create some momentum entering the SEC Championship.
Out of halftime, Rowe confirmed Carson Beck would miss the rest of the game due to his injury. That meant redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton would take over the rest of the way with an SEC title on the line.
