There was a heartwarming display during the SEC Championship game from the mother of one Georgia quarterback to another. Bulldogs starting QB Carson Beck had to leave the game early after suffering an arm injury at the end of the first half, and backup Gunner Stockton came in to replace him.

With Georgia leading Texas by a score of 13-6 entering the fourth quarter, Stockton’s mom was seen hugging Beck’s mom and offering her words of encouragement. You can view the moment below.

Georgia trailed 6-3 entering halftime but would go on to take its first lead of the game on the opening possession of the third quarter. Stockton looked impressive as he went 3-of-4 passing on that drive and also had 12 yards rushing.

The Bulldogs held a 13-6 lead entering the fourth, but Texas would come back to score a touchdown to tie the game. Stockton again led them on another long drive to answer with a field goal and retake a 16-13 advantage with 4:32 remaining.

The Georgia defense then forced an interception on the ensuing drive and had a chance to lock the game up. However, Stockton responded by throwing a pick of his own to give the ball right back to the Longhorns, who went on to kick a field goal and send the game into overtime.

Carson Beck injury update: Kirby Smart gives new details postgame

Georgia coach Kirby Smart offered an update on the arm injury to quarterback Carson Beck after the Bulldogs went on to win Saturday’s SEC Championship win against Texas in overtime. Beck is set to undergo an MRI to further determine the severity.

The coach also revealed that Beck was unable to grip or throw the ball, which certainly doesn’t sound good with the Bulldogs set to play in the College Football Playoff.

“Upper extremity injury,” Smart said. “We don’t know to what extent. Said they looked at it and it looked OK but didn’t have grip strength and couldn’t throw.”

The good news is that the Bulldogs will have a little more than three weeks before they play their first game in the College Football Playoff. That will give Beck some time to recover, but it remains to be seen what his timetable might be.
