Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young will be out for a long period of time, head coach Kirby Smart announced after Saturday’s win vs. Ole Miss. It’s a leg issue for Young, who got tackled after a catch and immediately knew something was wrong. A big loss for the Bulldogs.

“Kirby Smart says Georgia WR Colbie Young is out long term,’ Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger said via X. “He has a fracture in the leg.”

Young wound up making just the one catch on the afternoon, going for 36 yards. His season total is now at 336 yards on 23 receptions, also scoring a touchdown in the Alabama game. While some offseason work was done in the NCAA transfer portal, Young brings a good deal of experience inside the program.

Five games remain in the regular season for Georgia. A bye week takes place before taking the field again, resting after taking down Ole Miss in Athens. Then, a massive rivalry game against Florida takes place in Jacksonville for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Trips to Starkville and Atlanta remain, while still getting to host Texas and Charlotte. Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is the season finale vs. Georgia Tech before getting into possibly postseason scenarios. Georgia remains alive for both the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff.

Smart did not reveal the exact timeline for Young, eventually saying, “It’s not good.” Everyone will be hoping a return does take place at some point this season.

“Colbie Young, who is the second-leading receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, is out right now with an ankle injury,” ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported on the broadcast. “He is one of their top targets. In fact, Mike Bobo [was] telling us, he was trying to target him 10 times a game right now, along with Zachariah Branch. I’ll keep you posted if he’s able to return, but that is a big blow for Georgia’s offense right now.”

Branch eventually turned into the leading receiver for Georgia. His eight catches resulted in 71 yards. However, the story of the game turned into quarterback Gunner Stockton connecting with the tight ends. Lawson Luckie put together a hat-trick of touchdowns, while Oscar Delp averaged over 10 yards per catch.

Maybe an area Bobo can work into the game plan moving forward — especially with Young missing an extended period. After all, not many programs out there recruit tight ends better than Georgia.
