Greg McElroy believes Georgia’s ability to keep winning late in games speaks volumes about the program’s toughness and championship DNA. On the latest episode of Always College Football, the ESPN analyst praised the Bulldogs for their resilience after rallying in the fourth quarter to beat Florida 24-20.

The win was significant, as it marked their fifth straight victory in the rivalry. McElroy noted that while Florida fought admirably, Georgia once again found a way to deliver when it mattered most.

“Florida, give credit to what they put on the field. Everyone was kind of wondering. I thought Florida would battle. I thought Florida would keep it close. They were one of our giant killers,” McElroy said. “So the outcome of this game did not surprise us whatsoever. We said Georgia, we said Georgia close, it’ll be a grind.

“Well, another week, another comeback from the Georgia Bulldogs. Rally in the final minutes again, 24-20 over the Gators. That’s now five in a row that Georgia has won against the Florida Gators. It’s the longest since 1978 to 1983. They won six in a row during that stretch.”

McElroy pointed to the program’s consistency under Kirby Smart, comparing the current run to Georgia’s dominance over Florida during the Herschel Walker era. He also highlighted quarterback Gunnar Stockton’s poise against a tough Gators defense, even when the offense wasn’t firing on all cylinders.

“That was a good defense that he was playing against. I thought it was a really, really smart game from him at times. There are probably a couple of throws he’d like to have back as well,” McElroy added. “Did have a couple of touchdown passes. Did make some critical tweaks in the pre-snap.”

Perhaps most impressive to McElroy was Georgia’s track record in comeback situations: “This is now three fourth-quarter comebacks for Georgia this year. That’s the most in the FBS,” he said. “Even if they’re losing, they still win almost half their games. Pretty dang remarkable. Nobody has a better record than Georgia when trailing in the fourth quarter in college football since 2016.”

For McElroy, Saturday’s win embodied what makes the Bulldogs elite. They showed toughness, confidence, and the ability to adapt under pressure: “That was a gutsy win when they didn’t have their best stuff,” he concluded. “And that’s harder and harder to do nowadays, to win when you’re not at your best.”
