Mark Ingram reaffirms the SEC still runs through Georgia

Make no mistake about it, the SEC still runs through Georgia. At least that’s what Mark Ingram is thinking after the Bulldogs defeated Tennessee in Week 3.

While the Volunteers gave it their best shot, they couldn’t overcome Kirby Smart’s team. Ingram believes that until the reigning SEC champions are dethroned, the conference is Georgia’s — but that doesn’t mean that it can’t change.

“They always say you have to beat them, right? So yeah, you have to beat the champs. It does run through Georgia,” Ingram stated, via The Triple Option. “I don’t think it runs through Tuscaloosa right now. Tuscaloosa has to go take it. Austin has to go take it.

“The one team that I think it does have a chance to run through is LSU, Baton Rouge. That’s who I think does have a chance for it to run through.”

It isn’t hard to see why Ingram thinks that way. Georgia has shown that while they may be down every now and then, they’re not out. The Bulldogs will keep the pressure on the rest of the conference, even when their opponents think they have them right where they want them.

It isn’t just Ingram thinking that way, either. The former Alabama star’s sentiment was echoed by Joel Klatt of FOX Sports on the latest episode of The Joel Klatt Show.

“The SEC still goes through Georgia, because those Dawgs can bite,” Klatt stated, via The Joel Klatt Show. “They have resilience. This is a great, proud program. They practice with urgency. They build their roster with urgency. They play with urgency. This is what we didn’t see from Alabama against Florida State in Week 1. This is a team that answered the bell in that environment.

“This is one of the most special environments in college football. It’s checkered out. It is loud. And you’re down 21-7, and they just started eating the elephant. What do I mean by that? Well, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. That’s like a comeback. You can’t get it all back right now. And they just start plodding along, plodding along.

“They get a couple of stops, then they’re able to get a couple of scores, and then they get into a shootout. Then it’s fourth down, Stockton drops an absolute dime. The throw he made on fourth down was sensational. That is a big-time throw. Huge, man. I mean, like, wow. Again, another one of those moments — I’m on the plane, and I’m like, holy cow. And everyone looks at me.”

“… It goes through Kirby Smart. And right now it goes through Gunner Stockton. So kudos to the Georgia Bulldogs for that big win, in what can only be described as one of the great environments in all of college football.”

Georgia still has plenty of competition on its schedule, like Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn and Texas. We’ll see if any of those teams can deliver a blow to the Bulldogs, or if a team like LSU will have to wait until the SEC Championship Game for their shot.
